Stevie Drenkhaln hopes to be one of three showgirls from the region selected for this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show competition, when she attends Zone 6 Showgirl judging in Grenfell this Saturday.
Stevie, the reigning Canowindra Showgirl since September, will be one of nearly 30 young women from the zone to attend the judging on Saturday, February 28.
The judging will take place over the course of a day at Grenfell’s Country Club and Bowling Club.
Each showgirl will sit for a 15 minute interview with a panel of judges, made up of representatives from the Royal Agricultural Society and the show’s major sponsors.
Later they will attend a group lunch at Grenfell Country Club and finally a formal dinner at Grenfell Bowling Club, where they will be joined by family and friends.
Just last month Stevie attended a personal development weekend in Dubbo and met other showgirls from around the state at this event.
“The weekend was extremely enjoyable. New friendships were forged and knowledge gained.”
The winner of this weekends event will go on to represent the Central West in the 2009 Land Sydney Royal Showgirl Competition, in Sydney.
“I am extremely pleased to be representing Canowindra as the 2008/09 Showgirl, I have endeavoured to enlighten fellow Showgirls of the many attributes that Canowindra has to offer. Such as employment opportunities, cultural events the agricultural industry and a developed arts community; which is second to none, not to mention our local vineyards.
“Should I be fortunate enough to be named Zone showgirl, I would see it as part of my role to advertise to the state community how our little town Canowindra, has so much to offer,” Stevie said.
