Students offered Sydney exchange opportunity

06 Jul, 2011 02:44 PM
A unique country-city alliance will give four Cabonne Shire students the opportunity to spend a weekend in Sydney with visiting international students.

As part of Cabonne Council’s alliance with Hawkesbury City Council, four students from Years 9 to 11 will travel to the Hawkesbury region in August to join 12 young people from Japan and the USA in a weekend of activities in and around Sydney.

Cabonne Council will write to all high schools within its Shire, as well as encouraging Cabonne students who attend schools in surrounding areas to apply to take part in the exchange program.

The local students will meet the international students in the Hawkesbury area on Thursday August 11 before spending the afternoon in Penrith.

That evening will include dinner with the international students and youth members of the Hawkesbury Sister Cities Association.

The following day the group will enjoy a sight-seeing tour of Sydney and Manly before viewing the city skyline at night from Centrepoint Tower.

The Cabonne students will return home on Saturday August 13.

Accommodation will be provided by host families in the Hawkesbury area and the sister cities association will meet the cost of meals and travel by train and ferry within the Sydney area.

The successful students will have to organise their own transport to and from Hawkesbury, however Cabonne Council will provide each student with a $50 donation to help with their travelling costs.

Any Years 9-11 students living in Cabonne Shire who wish to apply for the exchange program should call Cabonne Counci’s Economic Development Manager Sharon D’Elboux on 6392 3252, email her on sharon.d’elboux@cabonne.nsw.gov.a u or make inquiries at their school.
