To artists both young and old - what does Anzac mean to you?
That’s the question the Canowindra United Hospital Auxiliary is asking the community, especially the younger generation, with the upcoming "Spirit of Anzac” Junior Art Exhibition at Canowindra Services and Citizens Club from April 2 to 8.
Students from classes 7-10 from Canowindra High School, and classes 4-6 from Canowindra Primary and St Edward’s School are invited to participate.
Jenny Weaver, speaking for the Canowindra Hospital Auxiliary, said the Auxiliary would love to see as many students as possible enter this competition with their interpretation of what Anzac means to them.
“Be it a field of poppies or laying a wreath or the Anzac march, there are so many aspects for this theme,” Mrs Weaver said.
Closing date for entries in the Students’ section for the exhibition is March 30, with entries to be left at the schools. For People’s Choice voting, there will be a charge for each vote of 50 cents.
The winning primary student from each of the primary schools will receive $50, and High School student winner will receive $100 prize money.
The school section winners will be announced on April 11 at the River Bank Gallery “Spirit of Anzac” exhibition opening.
“We would just love to see as many people as possible attend and participate in both these exhibitions as it is all helping to support our local community,” Mrs Weaver said.
Entry forms for the senior exhibition are available on the River Bank Gallery website or from the gallery itself.
There is prize money of $1000 generously donated by the Canowindra Services and Citizens Club, for the People’s Choice winner and the winner announced on Anzac Day 2009.
The Hospital Auxiliary is raising money for equipment for the Canowindra Soldiers Memorial Hospital in the form of a Cardiac and INR monitoring machine, valued at over $5000.
The machine will allow patients to have tests carried out in Canowindra before leaving hospital, rather than waiting for tests to be sent to Orange and the results to came back.
