The Age Of Fishes Museum has recently installed a hearing loop into the Education Den.
The Education Den is a hands on facility that allows people of all ages to participate in activities. The Education Den also houses an informative introductory video that the majority of visitors watch when they arrive at the Museum.
Chairman, Ron Cain said "The installation of the hearing loop will be a great asset to the Age Of Fishes Museum and offers another vital service to our visitors.
"Over the past year the Museum has actively worked on access issues which have included large print brochures and a hearing loop".
The Age Of Fishes Museum has received grant funds from Central West Credit Union Community Dividend Fund.
The Museum forwarded an application and was fortunate enough to receive a large majority of the funding that they sought. One of the key factors in the Museum's application was the results of a survey undertaken by the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 1998.
The findings of this survey identified that 19% of the Australian population as having a disability; at that time equalling 3.6 million Australians.
Leonore Smith, Central West Credit Union's Cowra Branch Manager, presented the Museum with a cheque for $4 000 on Wednesday 14 June.
Mrs Smith also had the opportunity to watch the hearing loop being installed by Andrew Stewart from PrintAcall in Sydney and Bill Paul of Canowindra.
"The Board of the Museum believe that the installation of the Central West Credit Union's hearing loop will not only benefit visitors of all ages but will be beneficial to the Canowindra community and give the Museum the opportunity to actively market to another sector". Mr Cain added.
The Age Of Fishes Museum will continue to improve customer facilities and is now working on captioning for all videos and tactile exhibits.
