As part of the Australia Day long weekend celebrations in Canowindra, an evening of music and dance will commence from 7pm Saturday 28th January at Taste Canowindra corner of Ferguson & Tilga streets. Admission will be $10 all proceeds from book, wine sales and gate receipts going to The Age of Fishes Museum.
Autographed copies of recently released book "Long ago but not far away", a story detailing the lives of fish in a Devonian billabong 360 million years ago, authored by Mim Loomes, will be on sale. The book, developed out of the educational resource program at The Age Of Fishes Museum, was illustrated by local artists Tony Dagg, Bron Reed & Christine Lanham. Prominent palaeontologist Dr. John Long recently launched the book at The Age of Fishes Museum.
By popular demand, the Gershwin Quartet from the Orange Regional Conservatorium featuring Graham Sattler- vocals and trombone, Christopher Perrin- trumpet, Ann Hosking - electric Double bass and Donna Riles Keyboards will return entertaining with Gershwin & Col Porter classics.
The Torsion Dance Group from Dance West will perform. Torsion presented inspiring performances in 2005 at The Catapult Youth Arts Festival in Bathurst, Springfest in Canowindra and the 60th. anniversary celebrations of the ABC's Country Hour at Cumnock in early November. The giant 8 metre Ossi the Grossi will also make an appearance acting as backdrop for the dance group. Torsion plus a number of other young dancers from Dance West are currently fund raising to finance a trip to The Australian Youth Dance Festival in Horsham, Victoria in April. They have a wonderful array of prizes in the raffle to fund their trip, tickets will be on sale on the night. In June the group will perform at The Henry Lawson Festival in Grenfell.
Work by local popular artists will be on display, including ceramic pieces from Rebecca Dowling, works in oils by Christine Lanham, acrylics Fran Ifould, mixed media Mary Douglas, boot polish & pastel Amber Martin and works in emu leg leather by Bob Craven.
A sculpture by Ken Hutchinson commissioned by Taste Canowindra Owners Marg & Bob Craven will be on show.
The sculpture reflects the atmosphere of the new complex which is about to embark on the next stage of its development. A new purpose built wine tasting facility is at the preconstruction planning stage. An argon gas dispensing system currently being installed will move to the new building when complete.
Lions will man a traditional Aussie BBQ, it will be a great night out, offering a wonderful opportunity to support those things that make Canowindra special.
