"Thank you all so much"

26 Apr, 2006 07:53 AM
An emotional Canowindra RSL Sub Branch President Merv Rohrlach paid tribute to the response of the crowd at this year's Anzac Day ceremony in Memorial Park

yesterday morning.

Under a warm Autumn sun, Mr Rohrlach oversaw the morning ceremony and as it drew to an end, his shaky voice expressed his gratitude for the support the Canowindra community gave to this year's event.

"This was an extremely moving experience," Mr Rohrlach told the hundreds gathered before him.

"Thank you very much, all of you, all of you.

"It was so wonderful to be here today. Don't let our affection for each other pass on, keep it in our community.

"Look to each other with love."

Memorial Park overflowed with onlookers at this year's service, after clapping and waving the traditional march of ex-servicemen down Gaskill St.

Spectators took to balconeys and verandahs to gain for themselves a better view, while others crowded the

footpath.

A stand out feature was the strong support by younger generations, with many young faces visible in the parade itself and school children, in uniform and representing their schools, present and participating in the service.

For those whose legs had marched in many Anzac Day marches before, a car was available to assist, with flags waving from the interior as it, and the marchers, wound its way down Gaskill St.
