Their faces will ring a bell

Being on the front cover of the phone book is a big deal - it means your face will be on every desk and sideboard in the region for the next year.

It is high praise and has not been lost on this year's cover couple, “taste Canowindra” owners Bob and Margaret Craven

Yellow and White Pages directory producer Sensis decided this year's theme, Celebrating Australian Flavour, would recognise "local food and beverage heroes" around Australia.

The Cravens were the perfect poster children for the Canowindra, Bathurst, Cowra, Lithgow, Mudgee, Orange, Rylstone and Young directory.

Despite having only been in business for two years, “taste Canowindra” is already fulfilling most of its goals and has more planned, Bob said.

"It is very much about providing a seamless experience of local culture," he said.

“Taste Canowindra” displays 58 wines from 10 different vineyards, serves meals of local produce whenever possible and even presents its food on locally made ceramics.

The business often acts as a one-stop shop for Canowindra tourists.

Bob has also been thrilled with the popularity of “taste Canowindra’s” recently introduced dinner shows.

Musical performers such as Jimmy Sloggett, Di Bird and Liz Frencham have helped turn “taste Canowindra” into something quite unique in country NSW, he says.

The Cravens see Sensis' decision to place the business on the directory cover as a resounding validation of their work so far but they still have no idea how they came to be chosen.

"I was really flattered ... I have absolutely no idea who nominated us, I've asked around but if anyone knows they aren't saying anything," Bob said.

"It's a really big deal for Canowindra as well as us when you consider it includes Bathurst, Orange and Dubbo."

Bob and Margaret replace Rhonda and Stephen Doyle, from Bloodwood Schubert Vineyard in Orange, who were chosen to fit last year's Champions of the Community theme.
