The agreement between the Wellington, Blayney and Cabonne Strategic Alliance Partners and the University of New England has now been formalised, with the confirmation of the Alliance Scholarship for Town Planners.
Ms Lynn Briggs, Fund Raising Officer for UNE attended a meeting at Blayney, signing the agreement on behalf of UNW, with Mr Andrew Roach, General manager Blayney Shire Council signing on behalf of the Alliance Partners.
The Scholarship is the second such WBC
scholarship and it will be available to students studying town planning, with preference given to students who are from the surrounding three Council
areas.
The term of the scholarship is for four years, with an annual award of $5,000 to the successful student. Work placement will be carried out at each of the three Councils during the term of the scholarship.
As with the WBC Engineering scholarship, the Alliance is actively seeking to address the skills shortages, particularly in areas that are impacting on rural local government areas.
The Alliance is in the early stages of planning for an additional two scholarships and it is hoped an announcement can be made on these mid
2006.
