Try a Trade visit impresses budding future apprentices

15 Mar, 2006 07:44 AM
The Central West Apprentices Try a Trade Roadshow visited the Canowindra High School yesterday on March 14 and it was a great success.

The truck arrived at 7am to set up.

Each trade had a separate area or table - the plumbers had a vanity unit and taps; horticulture had pots, potting mix, trowels, gloves and plants; hairdressing had models (with real hair) and quite a few of the boys also tried their hand at braiding.

Painting and signwriting had bright school colours for sign writing; woodwork offered a chance to make candle holders and at the electrical table students could cut wires and seal cord over wire.

Automotive teachers had tyres to work on and there was also welding and metalwork.

Tiling proved very popular as did the chance to do some cooking at the hospitality

table.

Many thanks to the staff who assisted with the organisation and who were able to visit and help with the supervision.

The visit was extremely popular with students as they were able to try some of the work involved and also work with people actually involved in these trades.

It is hoped that the Roadshow will visit the school again next year.
