Who will be our Citizen of the Year?

25 Jan, 2012 09:05 AM
Everyone is keeping tight lips about just who will be the winner of Canowindra’s Australia day Citizen of the Year award tomorrow.

All Cabonne Councillor Kevin Walker will say is that the award has attracted strong support this year.

“There’s certainly been a lot of nominations,” Cr Walker said.

Canowindra is just one community of several across the entire stretch of Cabonne celebrating its best and fairest with awards tomorrow.

Member for Dubbo Troy Grant will perform the official honours in Canowindra, which will kickstart in Memorial Park in the cool of the evening at 6.30pm.

The festivities will get underway with a flag raising ceremony and prayer before Canowindra's Australia Day honours, including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Group of the Year, are presented.

The award winners will then cut the cake, while the running of the Canowindra Cup will follow at around 7pm.

The Beautification Committee will run a sausage sizzle throughout the evening, according to Warwick Bowd, who will MC throughout the events.

A trophy will also be presented for Canowindra's best window display with an Australia Day theme, he said.
