Wine awards weekend coming up

22 Apr, 2009 08:41 AM
The 9th and 10th of May will see a buzz of

activity sweep across Cowra and Canowindra with the inaugural ‘Cowra Regional Wine Awards Weekend’ showcasing the best wines from the Cowra region.

The feature event of this weekend will be the ‘Regional Awards Dinner at The Mill’, with a five course degustation dinner being prepared by Cowra’s ‘hatted’ restaurant, Neila.

“We are very excited to have Anna Wong and the Neila team working in The Mill,” commented Windowrie’s, Jason O’Dea.

“Anna adheres to the 100 mile principle,

ensuring that the fresh produce to be served is sourced locally.

It will be a showcase of the region’s best wine and food.”

There will be a number of other wine events over this Mothers Day weekend, with many of Cowra and Canowindra’s cellar doors offering vertical

tastings, barrel tastings, food matching and much more.

“There is an eclectic range of fantastic wines in the region,” commented Cowra Regional Vineyards Association President, Tom Ward.

“The quality of Cowra’s wines has been steadily increasing over the past few vintages, with a number of wineries receiving national and international wine show recognition, not to mention some great results in the NSW Wine Awards.”

“The Cowra Regional Wine Awards Weekend is a way of introducing these winemakers, in a very welcoming and relaxed environment, to customers that may not necessarily know a lot about Cowra.”

Cowra Regional Wine Awards: This will be the inaugural Regional Wine Awards with three judges assessing the region’s wines. As well as the degustation dinner, there will be an exhibitors tasting session with the judges.

The wine awards will include a 'Consumer’s Selection' where a small group of Cowra residents will be invited to choose their favourite selections from wines that scored bronze medals or better.

Limited tickets for the Regional Awards Dinner are available for $85 per head (inclusive of the award winning wines). Booking can be made at Cowra Tourism on 02 6342 4333 or via email at themill@windowrie.com.au
