A woman has been charged with murder in relation to the death of her newborn baby in Canowindra.
Between midnight and 10am on Wednesday (April 6), the 19-year-old woman gave birth to a baby boy at her home in Canowindra.
The woman was discovered by family members shortly after the birth and she was taken to Canowindra Hospital suffering blood loss, before being transported to Orange Base Hospital.
Family members attended Canowindra hospital with the body of the full-term baby. Police from Canobolas Local Area Command subsequently commenced an investigation and attended the woman’s address where they established a crime scene.
A post mortem conducted yesterday (Friday April 8) allegedly revealed the baby died as a result of numerous puncture wounds to the chest.
The woman was released from Orange Base Hospital yesterday and was subsequently arrested at Orange Police Station. She was charged with murder and refused bail to appear at Orange Local Court this morning (April 9).
