The inaugural Canowindra Women’s Day luncheon will be held at the Deli Lama Cafe on Saturday, March 8.
Cafe owners Sarah Hall and Donna Wilson will host the event from 1.30pm.
The Deli Lama trademark colours of green and purple served for the basis of the initial conversation between International Women’s Day event organiser Judith Selby and Sarah and Donna, leading to the decision to instigate a event in Canowindra.
The colours purple, green and white have been used to symbolise the struggle for women to obtain equal rights.
The colours originated with the Women’s Social and Political Union in the UK in 1908.
The colours were said to represent: white for purity of purpose, purple for dignity, self-reverence and self-respect, and green for hope and new life.
The Canowindra International Women’s Day lunch will include the history of the day, including current United Nations priorities for women and speeches from local women.
If women would like to attend the luncheon please contact Deli Lama on 6344-1006 or Judith Selby on 6344-1777.
There is a limit of 25 places due to the size of the venue.
