How the Catholic Church can use the media for its own benefit will be tackled at a special presentation by the Southern Region Catholic Women's Association in Canowindra on Monday.
Rev. Dr Richard Leonard is Director, Australian Catholic Film Office; Director, Catholic Church Television Australia and from Newman College, University of Melbourne, Victoria.
Fr Leonard will provide his wonderful insights and witty presentation on:
"Lights! Camera! Action! How can Catholics have faith in a media saturated culture? at a morning tea/lunch presentation.
Fr Leonard looks at how the media can influence Catholics and their children, and how the Church can harness the media for good.
"Whether we like it or not, the media is the modern day marketplace where minds and hearts are won and lost," Fr Leonard says.
"But how much do we know about the media culture that forms us?
What is on our agenda and what can Catholic parishioners and families do about it?"
Fr Leonard is a Jesuit priest and holds degrees in arts, education and theology. He is a graduate of the London Film School and holds a PhD in cinema studies. He lectures in cinema and theology across Australia, the Pacific, the UK and USA; is a film critic; has served on the jury at many international film festivals and is the author of two books.
The fellowship morning will be held on Monday 25 September, from 10.00am to a light lunch served at 12.30pm, in the parish centre of St Edwards Church, Canowindra.
The cost is only a gold coin donation. For catering purposes please RSVP as soon as possible to Anne Ward on 63443262.
