10 Mar 10 | The ladies opening day was held on February 24, in brilliant conditions, on a very lush and green course. The were a total of 41 players, with visitors from Cowra, Duntyleague, and Ex Services Orange, Forbes, Grenfell, Manildra, Yeoval, and Molong.
10 Mar 10 | Summer has ended and autumn is upon us - it’s time to get your head out of the hazy days of summer sport and start thinking winter and hockey. Cowra hockey is played by males and females of all ages and level of experience.
10 Mar 10 | Not much to report as pennants were cancelled due to the weather. On Wednesday we had Peter Taylor and Roger Traves doing battle with Peter getting over the line 31-26.
10 Mar 10 | Canowindra Touch Football Semi finals start off next Monday night. The comp will split into A, B & C grade. The final placings are as follows A Grade – Garden of Roses, Services Club, Royal Hotel, Yuzawa Tigers
10 Mar 10 | The District Fours for 2010 were won by Ruby Fogg, Joan Bailey, Judy Nobes and Ivy Fogg (Cowra) defeating another Cowra team Ann Collins, Robyn Oliver, Jill Turnbull and Heather Hoad 27-16. Congratulations to Ivy Fogg’s team on a fine performance.
Former Canowindra boy helps NSW take home cricket championship
03 Mar 10 | Two of Canowindra’s former “sons” have been in the news in the past week following success and despair in the sporting arena. Liam Gough, who now lives in Orange has returned from the School Sport Australia 15 Years and Under Boys’ Cricket Championships with new skills and a gold medal. Gough is the son of former Canowindra residents Narissa and Gerry Gough.
03 Mar 10 | Canowindra won the toss and captain Blake Wilson elected to bat in their under 16 clash. Jacob Devlin and Matt McLean opened and they put on 12 runs before Jacob was caught for 6. Matt made 22 before he was caught in his last over before he would have had to retire.
03 Mar 10 | Once again the rugby season is fast approaching. This year the Pythons are playing in the Southern Presidents Cup Competition which includes teams from Blayney, three Orange clubs, Cudal and three new teams to the competition which are Grenfell, West Wylong and Condoblin.
Swimmers qualify for state titles
03 Mar 10 | On Wednesday February 24, 17 swimmers from Canowindra High School competed at the Western Area trials at Cowra. Some new unannounced rules implemented this year had a few of our boys a little concerned.
03 Mar 10 | Two clear Friday nights in a row and Swimming Club is back on schedule and with the swimmers practicing for district and regional carnivals times tumbled as well. The first championship was the 200m freestyle run in junior and senior age divisions with the winners announced on Presentation Night on the 26th March.
Gooloogong Rivers Road a touch ahead
24 Feb 10 | We began the annual suburb of origin competition in Term 4 last year but with the onset of some very hot weather postponed the remaining games until now. Well it’s been done and it’s been won!!
24 Feb 10 | Canowindra won the toss and elected to bat in the twenty20 match. Rohan Toole and Tim Middleton opened the batting. Tim departed in the third over, where Alex Wilson joined Rohan and took the score to 43, before Alex was run out after completed a run, but Alex lifted his bat from the crease and Daniel White threw the stumps down with an accurate throw, and Alex departed for 14.
24 Feb 10 | As Donna is away I wasn't going to write the report this week but I'm happy to announce that I have found a replacement, what I mean is I found someone else to take her place, what I mean is I found a young lady to type this for me.
24 Feb 10 | For all those young Tigers that have already signed up training will commence this week. Under 10s will begin on Tuesday 23rd February at 5.30pm, whilst Under 8s and under 12s will start on Thursday 25th at 5.30pm.
Nancy Morrow defeats Deanna Noble in singles
24 Feb 10 | Sorry bowlers, but the bowls news I submitted on Monday February 15 was not published in the Canowindra News on February 17. Three matches were played last Tuesday February 16. MAJOR SINGLES, 2nd round – Nancy Morrow defeated Deanna Noble 31-16.

17 Feb 10 | Independent Member for Dubbo Dawn Fardell has urged women involved in sport across western NSW to apply for one of the 15 scholarships on offer to attend the 2010 World Conference on Women and Sport from May 20 –23.
Bullet fires at Bedgerebong

17 Feb 10 | For the second Friday in a row wet weather and thunder have cancelled swimming club. As a result this Friday, weather permitting, will see a packed programme of three, 3, championships, so that the championships programme can be fitted in before the end of swimming club at the end of March
