Canowindra Public School's open cricket team began its 2008 season with a convincing win over Grenfell Primary School at The Oval, avenging its 2007 second round defeat.
Grenfell won the toss and elected to bat and faced Canowindra Public School's opening pair of Rohan Toole and Bailey Cain.
Rohan opened with a maiden over and Bailey went one better as Grenfell opener R Wilson nicked a ball to wicket keeper Alex Wilson and Grenfell was 1-0.
Tight bowling over the next three over kept Grenfell tied down before Rohan sent down an unplayable ball which bowled Henry Hunt for 2 and Grenfell was 2-3.
The very next over Bradyn Cassidy repeated the ball and Andrew Johnson was on his way for a duck.
The Canowindra Public bowlers had the upper hand as the wickets continued to fall.
Opener Scott McKellar was the next to go, again bowled Bradyn for 3.
Alex Willson took his second catch of the innings to oust J. Knight[0] before J Gavin was run out for another duck.
H Matthews made 2 before Bradyn caught him off an excellent Regan Hughes delivery while M Frampton didn't trouble the scorer before Bailey bowled him in his second spell, and Grenfell was 8 - 30.
Grenfell's best batsman, M Walker, combined with four different partners and made 13 runs before he skied a ball to Bradyn and gave Rohan Toole his second wicket of the innings.
The innings came to a close when Harry Whatman bowled M.Stock for 1 and Grenfell was all out for 42.
Harry Whatman and Rohan Toole opened the innings for Canowindra and unfortunately Harry was back on the sideline quickly as he was out leg before wicket for 0.
Regan joined Rohan at the wicket and the score started to accumulate as the boys ran quick singles and Regan found the boundary twice.
Regan fell caught H Hunt bowled A Johnson for 13 while Rohan went five runs later caught R Wilson bowled C Locke for 4 and the score was 3 - 27.
Alex Willson and Bradyn Cassidy took the score past 42 needed in the 12th over as they pushed ones and twos at will and threw in the odd boundary.
Both retired on 10 runs each as coach Matt Devlin gave the other players a chance to bat and Grenfell all a chance to bowl.
Bailey Cain, Jake Wythes, Robert Maroney, Ben Edwards, Ben Bermingham, Sam McKenzie and Zak Whitehead all spent time at the crease and in the end Canowindra Public School ran out winners 56-42.
