Under 15 junior cricket local derby
Canowindra Produce defeated Canowindra Services Club in the first big local derby of the season.
Produce captain Murray Bennett winning the toss and sending Services Club into bat, soon paid dividends with Connor Lamond rattling the stumps of captain Zac Rue without scoring.
Nick Traves batting at the other end showed good defence and technique keeping the opening Produce bowlers at bay, with Connor Lamond finished with one for three off three overs and Murray Bennett none for four off three overs.
Services Club started to find the bowling a little friendlier and runs a bit easier to come by, with some wayward bowling from produce, with them bowling 26 extras to make it a total of five for 87.
Best with the bat for Services Club was Jamie Bennett on 18 not out and Harry Myers on 12 not out.
Canowindra Produce started batting with Murray Bennett and Jacob Devlin with a 30 run partnership unbeaten starting up what looked like a game that was going to finish quickly, but Services Club fought back with some very good bowling and fielding.
Harry Myers taking two for seven off two overs but it was to be the Produce’s day with some very good batting by Connor Bennett with 14 not out, Nicole Stevenson eight and James Russell seven not out, seizing the day by getting Canowindra Produce over the line by one run, after much time adding up the score book several times,
The main highlight of the morning was the way both teams played the game right out to the end. And of course not forgetting that young Michael Watt taking his very first wicket for Canowindra Junior Cricket, luckily James Watson won’t have to face him at school this week.
Final score of the game was Canowindra Services Club five for 87, Canowindra Produce four for 88.
A big thank you must go to our local sponsors for both under 15s teams that being Canowindra Produce and Canowindra Services Club.
Your sponsorship has been wonderful over the years and has helped tremendously. Thank you.
Also, another thank you must go to our two lovely scorers’ for the morning Margie Rue and Lyn Russell without help like yours it would be hard for junior cricket to run smoothly, so thank you both.
