Third straight loss for cricketers

09 Dec, 2009 08:16 AM
Canowindra A grade suffered their third straight loss on Saturday, in their first game at home in five weeks, going down to Grenfell by 43 runs.

Grenfell won the toss and elected to bat. Nick Guthrie and Nick Delaney started the bowling attack off dominating the Grenfell top order taking two early wickets. Ben Mitton and Holmes then put on a solid 71 run partnership in good time, helping the visitors to 7/162 off their forty overs.

Canowindra started out building their innings slowly, losing only three wickets in the first 22 overs, leaving a required run rate of six runs an over at drinks to win the game.

The constant need for runs contributed to the loss of wickets, a deceptive P Simpson taking five of the Canowindra wickets.

A late dash for quick runs by Nick Delaney in the final overs was not enough to run down the Grenfell side.

B Grade also lost in their home game at Canowindra High School to Aussie Toll.

Another solid batting effort by Mick Clyburn and Mark Norman assisted Canowindra in their innings, unfortunately not enough, the away team winning by six wickets.

Next week A grade will be at home again vs Valleys, our B grade side will head to Woodstock searching for a win.

Matt Devlin was out for a duck in Canowindra’s match against Grenfell last weekend. He was economical with the ball going for just 10 runs off three overs.
