Bowling club wins the annual golf and bowls day

29 Nov, 2006 08:09 AM
Bowling Club has won the Golf and Bowls Trophy sponsored by Margaret and Ned Grant for 2006.

48 players braved the hot and steamy conditions last Saturday starting off with nine ends of bowls.

The Bowly got off to a great start, showing their golfing opponents how this game is played taking the first round with an 18 point lead.

Then it was up to the Golf Club to take them on in their game. As the match got underway the Bowly kept up to the Golfy hole for hole.

But, from the fifth hole on the Bowling Club were struggling to find the right fairways, also with our putting.

Thank heavens the Bowly's had a very handy lead, otherwise the Shield could have easily slipped through our fingers.

Final score was Bowling Club 47 defeating Golf Club 41.5.

There is a few big thank you's that must go to the organisers who made this day such an enjoyable day.

Firstly to Margaret and Ned, the sponsors on the day. Emma Grant for selling tickets for CareFlight where $230 was raised on the day. Well done Emma.

Then to Eric Earsman and Judy Nelder for cooking the barbeque, thank you.

Also to the players who participated on the day.

Overall winners: John Jones, Jim Reid and John Wallace with runners up being Teddy Lawrance, Tod Wyburn and Nick Delaney.

Games drawn for Saturday December 2:

Mixed Pairs - G Hayden and J Armstrong versus N Morrow and B Tangye; C Webb and C Pickard versus J McNaught and T Hayden.

Wednesday afternoon chook run.

Friday night bowls.

Badge draw - Wednesday is $1450.00 and Friday is $1300.00.
