Golfers tee off on club’s biggest day of the year

27 Apr, 2011 10:55 AM
With perfect weather over the Easter weekend we were able to complete a huge weekend of golf. It all started on Friday with a 18 hole par 3 event.

A good field of 18 starters competed in this game and the course was made very competitive by Johnny our greenkeeper. Just a little thankyou to John for presenting the course in perfect condition over the whole long weekend.

The winner of the par 3 event was Ros Partridge who managed to sneek home in front of everyone else. Good to see one of our Lady golfers mixing it up with the men and coming out in front.

Saturday saw a two person ambrose sponsored by Canobolas Locksmiths. A good field of twenty starters took to the course with the eventual winners being Doug Flannery and Corey Knight who finished with a nett 60.

Runners up were Troy McClintock and Jamie Grant who finished with a nett 62. A big thanks goes to Ian Stapleton for his ongoing support of the Golf club. Sunday was the biggest day of the weekend with the annual Flannery Family Fun Day.

A really good field of forty starters teed off and it was really great to see most of the Flannerys there on the day with the ever increasing young additions to the clan.

The format for the day was a three person ambrose and the team to outlast everyone else was the team of Malcomb Millar, Ian Stapleton and Ian Walker.

These boys recorded a nett score of 68.67. Runners up with a nett score of 68.83 were Des McDonald Rick Harvey and David Grant. There was also a novelty event run on the day with a nearest the pin second shot on the 9th and 18th hole.

This trophy was taken out by Barry Traves who finished approx 500mm from the hole.

Thanks to everyone from The Flannery family for sponsoring the day. I am sure that everyone there had a really good day. Young Pam Mathews deserves a gold medal for doing the Bar b que for us over the weekend.

On Monday there was a 18 hole matchplay event for the Captain vs the President day.

As this report was filed on Monday morning I dont have any results for this competition. Coming events include the start of our club championships on Saturday.

The championships are held over four rounds concluding on May 8. On May 15 we start our Pennants series. The first round will be held at Bigga with anyone who wants to come welcome to compete on the day Thanks for reading The golfed out golfer.
