Beautiful, sunny, well-manicured fields and a bunch of keen hockey players - it doesn't get much better than that.
There was a fantastic roll up for the u11's on Saturday - it was great to see the new and old faces there.
All u18's players are reminded that shin pads and mouth guards are to be worn in games and at training.
It is strongly recommended senior players also wear this equipment.
SPONSORS: Welcome to new u15's sponsors "COWRA SMASH REPAIRS", and thank you to Gus and Vicki Camps for this sponsorship.
We're looking forward to seeing the new strip - black shirts with a white bar down the sides and blacks socks. Very flash indeed!
Also, great to see the sparkling new strip worn by the old Blue Jays side, now to be known as AUSSIE HOTEL. Nice one girls.
Thanks to the Aussie Hotel for their sponsorship of one of our senior sides.
Thank you to all of our sponsors for your ongoing support.
Goalie Gear: All goalie gear will be kept in the office during competition days. Coaches will need to sign the equipment out and in each game.
Coaches will be responsible for the gear and to ensure that all pieces are returned.
U15's Team shirts are supplied by the coaches each week and all players are asked to make sure they return their shirt to their coach after every game.
This has been deemed necessary due to the number of association-owned shirts that have disappeared in the past few years.
If you have a past hockey shirt, skirt or socks in your possession please return it to the canteen on the weekend.
Any u15's out there who would like to play hockey it's not too late.
Come to the fields with shin pads and mouth guard on Saturday and register.
Umpires for u15's and trainees: If the following people are interested in pursuing interests in umpiring can they report to Brenda at the field prior to the u15's: Jaime Buckmaster, Andrew White, Marion Rose, Eric Hutchinson, Emily Williams.
Anybody else interested in umpiring u15's or learning to umpire in any capacity, please see Brenda at the field so we can work out a program for the season.
There is certainly the potential for more badged umpires out there.
Have a go, you never know how you'll go.
Badged umpires: Any badged or experienced umpires not already tied up with team responsibilities and interested in keeping their lips on a whistle, let Brenda know, we're happy to have you run (or walk, or drag yourself) up the line.
Sorry, I'll have to change that, NO DRAGGING!
Mr Clarke, you'll have to sit and give guidance from a strategic position.
Seniors: Senior teams are asked to complete their registrations ASAP as there is the possibility of forming a sixth team to fill the BYE spot.
This can't be done if existing teams are dilly-dallying over numbers.
Please get this finalised to avoid ongoing fiddling with the draw.
WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Under 11's : The 2007 u11's competition got off to a fantastic start on Saturday with a beautiful Autumn day and 22 keen participants.
A big welcome to the new faces this year - Jessie McLean, Ben Eisenhauer, Blake Falconer, Axton Farrell-Gray, Stevie Farrell-Hut, Kayla Banks, Josie Gilham, Josh Donnelly and Connor Donnelly.
For those returning for another year it's great to see you all so keen.
This season each gathering will begin with a warm up, followed by a whole group skill session, leading into a skills circuit with 4 stations. The morning will finish with a game with the players coached and umpired by our very knowledgeable coaching staff: Maxine Nelligan, Melissa Gourlay, Jaime Buckmaster, and Andrew White.
The skills for the first week were pushing and dribbling. We did very well!
Remember, right hand down the stick for both of these skills.
When dribbling, try to keep the ball on the stick and if you can, look up every now and then to see if you're heading in the right direction or if there is someone coming to take the ball.
Players were put into four teams for a short game (these will change during the first few weeks) and the Blues vs Reds while the Yellows vs Greens.
The Blues and Reds were very evenly matched, the runaway breaks of Kyle Hannan for the Blues and Daniel White for the Reds saw a close score of 4-3 the Blues way. Newcomers Axton Farrell-Gray and Kayla Banks took out the player of the week awards for their sides. Well done.
The Yellows and Greens could not be separated with the game ending in a draw, 2-2. Matty Gourlay played very strongly for the Yellows as did Josh Dunk for the Greens. Both sides were very keen and ran very well in attack and defense.
Player of the week awards for this match went to Josh Donnelly for the Yellows and John Clarke for the Greens.
Looking forward to this Saturday. Remember to wear those shin pads and mouth guards. Any players thinking of trying u11's - give it a go.
It is perfect for new players and young experienced players alike.
This weekend's draw:
U11's: Start 11:15am sharp Field 2 behind the canteen.
Minkey for the littlies 11:15am sharp Field 1 in front of the canteen
Someone has inadvertently picked up one of the "JUNIORS" balls from the u11's at the end of game play last Saturday.
If you've found a wayward white ball could it be handed in to the office or given to Elka, Brenda, Maxine or Melissa this Saturday please.
U15's: 12:30pm Field 1 : Elders Red vs Cowra Smash Repairs Umps: BC Hannan and Maree Dykes
Field 3: ANZ Bank Arrows vs Cowra Glass Umps: Anne Brown and Elka Johnstone
Teams are reminded of the need to provide at least one umpire each week.
Where a specific person is not nominated the team captain must fulfil the duty or ensure a suitable replacement.
Penalties apply for non-provision of umpires. Please do the right thing.
