Nine races kept punters happy at Forbes on Sunday and with fast times and most would have finished on top with six favourites greeting the judge first.
In the first, the Forbes Services Memorial Club Pace (heat one) saw Demarco set the scene for the day equaling the track record for 2060 metres.
Set alight from the start by trainer driver Dennis Picker, Demarco (1.40) led all the way winning from Onyapathalone (Stephen Dowton - 7.00) who sat behind the leader all the way and Blackhawk Miss (David Harris – 7.00) who was three back on the pegs for the early part of the journey before getting clear in the run home.
Startled took out the Ron Kenny Meats 3YO Pace after being raced one one by Karen Glendenning for most of the 2060 metre journey.
Glendenning took Startled (2.00) three wide at the top of the straight to win by four metres from Strip Poker (Bernie Hewitt – 3.00) who went around the field to sit outside the leader, Die With Pride, one and half laps from home but was no match for the winner in the run home.
Die With Pride (Keith Thompson – 13.00) held on for third.
Officials were quick to credit the win by Tooth Under Fire as the best of the nine races on Sunday winning the Clarrie Robb Memorial.
Tooth Under Fire (Trent Rue – 1.80) sat at the tail of the field settling before being taken three wide at the bell and was still kicking a lap later at the finish line.
Racey Lou Hanover (Ian Quirk, 5.00) led all the way bar the shadows of the post when grabbed by Tooth Under Fire.
Playstation (trained by Bobby Lee and driven by Nathan Townsend – 10.00) was three back on the pegs before finding room late in the run home for third.
Glendenning recorded her double for the meeting winning the Forbes Services Memorial Club Pace (heat two) with Stop Looking.
Stop Looking (2.30) was well positioned one one for most of the journey and proved too strong for Ballalaba Rogue (Arthur Clancy – 3.50) who raced two back on the outside before being taken wide in the straight.
Lady Cam (Nathan Townsend – 8.00) also produced an eye catching run to fill third after racing midfield for a major part of the race.
A protest decided the fifth race, the Pro Ag Jack Honan Memorial (heat four) which saw Sunrise Toby lodge a successful protest against Work in Progress after being taken wide in the straight.
Sunrise Toby (Catherine de Pijper – 3.00) sat behind Work in Progess ( Anthony Winnell – 4.00) before challenging in the home straight.
Work In Progress led all the way but lost after running off the track interfering with the run of Sunrise Toby in the home straight.
Third was Eileen Annika (Michael Hardy – 5.00) who finished well behind the two leaders in the run home.
In accepting her win de Pijper, who trains at Blayney, said she wished the final of the Honan Memorial was in Forbes.
"There is plenty of atmosphere here and I like this track," she said adding that she doesn't like to protest but felt all along her horse should have won easily.
The Harvey World Travel President's Pace was one of the fastest ever seen at Forbes with most of the field going hard from the outset.
With the pace on from barrier rise Malcolm Hutchings took a sit on Panicanrun (41.00) to be midfield before overhauling the tiring leaders in the straight to set a new track record for 2470 metres.
Lace and Whiskey (Mat Rue – 4.00) was one one early and dashed to the lead in the back straight, however Panicanrun also made a similar move.
Third was Bella Stature (Nathan Townsend – 8.00) who went from last to third but finished well down the track.
Canowindra pacer Spinning Casino (Troy McClintock - 6.00) took out the Beaurepaires and TPD Engineering 2YO Pace after being taken to the front in the first half lap to draw clear from Our Jet Stream (Bernie Hewitt – 1.80) who led early.
Third was Pearces Dream (Dean Crook – 8.00) who came from three back.
Another to perform creditably was Foreverinbluejeans (Bernie Hewitt – 2.00) who had to pull out all stops chasing Run Foxy Run who opened up a four length lead for a major part of the race.
Mad Mel (Chris Frisby – 4.40) also ran home strongly after being midfield early while Run Foxy Run (Nathan Hoy – 3.00) held on for third.
In the last, the Shead and Nicholson and Pymont Brothers Shell Service Station Pace went to Northern Glow (David Micallee – 5.00) who was able to lead all the way from Armbro Oscar (Mat Rue – 3.20) who came from three back on the pegs and Karinyarama (Gary Eyre – 3.50) who sat outside the leader at the bell only to weaken slightly in the run home.
