Jockey suspended for causing interference

22 Nov, 2006 07:56 AM
Dubbo jockey Ken Dunbar will spend the next couple of weeks on the sidelines after being suspended for careless riding at Wellington on Saturday.

Dunbar was riding Puddytat for Mark Jones in the Quain's Liquor Store Class 2 Handicap (1000m).

Stewards charged Dunbar with allowing Puddytat to shift in at the 500m mark and inconveniencing Ryan's mount All For Fun ($4.20 fav).

The interference, and a further check in the home straight, undoubtedly cost All for Fun the race as it charged home to finish second behind the Phillip Ayoub-trained Yong Chee ($17.00).

Dunbar pleaded guilty to the charge and was suspended until December 2.

The suspension soured what had been a good day for Dunbar after he rode Brough Superior to victory in the L and R Edwards Transport Open Handicap (1700m).

The six-year-old was unwanted in betting, drifting from $5.00 to $8.00 but Dunbar was able to get a saloon passage up the rails coming around the home turn and forged clear down the straight.

Paper Boy, which started an easing $3.00 favourite, finished second while Star Of Universe rallied late to finish third.

Apprentice jockey Lousie White and leading hoop Greg Ryan stole the show at Wellington, both recording winning doubles.

White rode the bookends, winning on Sir Quizzical in the opening race and Igora Royal in the last race.

The young apprentice, who is indentured to Terry Bye at Dubbo, has recently moved to the area from Tamworth and shows promise.

Ryan rode a race-to-race double, winning on $3.50 chance Sheepish in the Nott's Rural and Domestic Supplies Maiden Plate (900m) and then guiding Little Kushi to victory in the Wellington Plant Hire Maiden Handicap (1700m).

The winning double took Ryan's season tally to 60.5 winners, leaving him at the top of the NSW jockeys premiership ahead of Darren Beadman (51) and Grant Buckley (49).
