Molloys have another Picnic

The Molloy family’s tradition with racing away with the riches from the Cowra Picnic Race Cup meeting continued on Friday when Greyland scored an emphatic win in the the 2010 Cowra Picnic Cup.

Trained by Andrew Molloy Greyland made it win number six in the Cowra Picnic Cup for the Molloy’s.

Greyland was Andrew’s second cup winner.

His first winner was Flabbergasted.

Andrew’s father Bill (Brother) Molloy trained three Picnic Cup winners, saluting twice with Memories Son and once with Prince Arcadus.

Andrew’s grandfather Bill Molloy senior trained Le Toff to the win the feature.

Bookmakers reported solid support for Greyland with as much as 20-1 bet about the flashy grey.

An excited Bill Molloy described owner Jeff Piercy after the race as “a champion bloke”.

He said whilst the win came as a surprise the stable new the horse had ability,

it is just a matter of him putting it all together on the day.

Piercy, a former trainer himself, said he had to give the training game away due to the lack of word riders in his home town of Condobolin.

On the line Greyland had two and a half length to spare from the Young trained Poker Pro with a further two lengths to the favoured Canterdown in third place.

The win of Greyland was the second win of the day for Cowra connections with the Kevin White trained Shot Putt continuing his love affair with the Cowra track to take out the Cowra Guardian/Mogga’s Marquees Trophy Race over 1200 metres.

Shot Putt, ridden by Ashley Boyd, has now had seven starts on the Cowra track for three wins, two seconds and a third.

The five year-old son of Shot of Thunder is owned by a big syndicate which includes Kevin, Jenny and Todd White, Steve Mason and Belinda Green, BT Wall, RB Staniforth, DW Riches and Paul Cradock.

Owners Steve Mason and Belinda Green made a three day trek back from Lake Eyre just to be on hand and were delighted to have made the effort.
