Hockey begins on April 29

19 Apr, 2006 07:55 AM
COWRA DISTRICT HOCKEY

The time is drawing near for the commencement of the hockey competition and all of the final plans are being made to make sure the season is a successful one for all involved.

To that end it is important that all players who have not yet registered contact the registrar Carole Brown 36424702 so that you can be included in a team.

The competition begins on Saturday 29th April. On Sunday 30th April is the NSW Western Conference Championship for girls in Parkes. Read on for more details.

Meeting: The next meeting will be held on Monday at 7pm at the Cowra Bowling Club starting 7 pm sharp. All teams need a representative to attend.

U/15's: This year there are 4 Cowra U/15's sides which is fantastic. We have 3 with sponsors from last year but urgently require a kind business entity to sponsor the 4th. Until a new sponsor is found shirts will be provided by the association. All teams are looking for coaches to steer them round the park on Saturday. Weekday training is being conducted en masse at this stage by people within the association but they can't, however, stand on the sidelines on a Saturday due to commitments to umpiring and the general running of the competition.

Anyone who is keen to play hockey in U/15's but has not registered or cannot see their name appear in the team lists below must contact Brenda urgently- 6342-5761 - to be placed in a team prior to the first comp. game. If you will be away for the first comp game also contact Brenda so we aren't wondering where you are and your team isn't inconvenienced. Until coaches are appointed, the first player noted for each team should act as team captain and ensure game cards are completed and players organised to take the field.

Since not all of the Cowra players attended the grading days or made contact with the organisers there may still be some player shuffling amongst the teams. There is always room for extra players if people wish to play but please get your name into Brenda (6342-5761) ASAP.

The teams are as follows:

Cowra Glass: Jaime Buckmaster, Kodie Draber, Allan Hunt, Bill McAlister, Clare Watt, Isaac Watt, Joel Watt, Anna White, Ben Jones, Emma Francis, Jamie-Leigh Gourlay, Dana Hannan.

SportsPower: Sarah Park, Toby Nobes, Sam Medway, Jessie-Lea Medway, Dillon Horsfeld, Nicholas Simmonds, Charlie Book, Andrew Brown, Erin Densmore, Jessica Camps, Cassie Glover, Samantha Brown

Nameless: Laura Butterworth, Megan French, Nicole Coutanche, Dylan White, Alex Rowston, Brendan Tidswell, Tim Tarrant, Nathan Dennis, Grace Bryant, Hillary Watt, Anna McLean, Kyle Hannan

REP for girls in all divisions is at Parkes - 30th April. (the last Sunday of the school holidays). We need names of interested players NOW. If you want to play in Parkes please contact the appropriate coach as listed below ASAP. The cost to attend will be $10 per player.

Any U/15's who wish to play "B" or "A" grade and are looking for a team to play with please let Carole (registrar) or Linda (president) know so you can be placed into a team that needs more players. There are teams looking for players in the senior grades.

U/11's (ie turning 11 this year or younger): This is our first chance to attend a carnival, it will be a lot of fun. We need at least 13 players to go, no need to be a star, just keen to run about and have a go. Let Brenda know urgently if you want to play, we can't go if we don't have enough. Girls U/11's - Sunday 30th April - Parkes. Boys U/11's:- Sunday 14th May- Parkes

Umpires: Senior teams must provide names of their designated umpires (2). Anyone else who is keen to umpire or learn to umpire should let Brenda know. Don't forget if teams fail to provide an umpire as noted by the draw they will lose competition points and the noted umpire (or team captain) will not be allowed to play the next competition game for their team.

Other rep dates: Boys U/15's - carnival Parkes; Sun 14th May;

Boys U/13's; carnival Parkes: Sun 18th June. State Championship dates to be advised later:

Reminder: 1/ It is compulsory for all players 18 & under to wear shin pads and mouthguards and it is strongly recommended that the senior players to follow suit.

2/ The competition officially begins on Saturday 29th April (the last weekend of the school holidays). Times and umpiring duties will be in next Friday's Cowra Guardian.
