Krystle's taking on the world

25 Jan, 2006 08:13 AM
Canowindra girl Krystle Cassidy is currently living a life that many girls of her age could barely dream of.

She's currently in the middle of a tour of Wales and Ireland with the Australian Under 19's schoolgirl side, which she got selected into by going to Cairns.

Making things even better, the team just won their first game three to one.

To top things off, Krystle was selected as the vice-captain of the team.

"She's over the moon," said Krystle's proud grandmother, Merlene Byrnes.

"She's having a great time."

Krystle was able to go over to the United Kingdom with the aid of the Canowindra community, which got behind a raffle organised to help raise the money Krystle

needed.

"Thanks to all the community of Canowindra. They were marvellous, and raised seven thousand dollars for her," said Ms Byrnes.

She said that the family was particularly grateful to several clubs that helped to organise the raffle.

Most particularly "The Services Club and the Lions Club. We couldn't have run a raffle by ourselves".

She said that the family first heard from the granddaughter after the win, when Krystle text messaged her mother.

"She'll get texts if they've won.

"It was their first match, she's already had two cancelled because of rain,"

Krystle has also been selected for the New South Wales Sapphires B "Blue Team, which performs at an elite level of competition.

"It's a lot of travelling for training, especially with her going to

Sydney.
