Lisa Corrigan wins national track and field title

14 Mar, 2007 08:10 AM
Canowindra product Lisa Corrigan completed a dominant domestic season on Saturday night by powering away from rival Sarah Jamieson in the 1500 metres to win her first national track and field title.

Only 12 months ago, Corrigan's weight had plummeted to 43 kilograms and she was on the verge of anorexia.

She is now back to a much healthier 48 kilograms, having overcome the eating disorder, and can look forward with confidence to August's world championships.

Jamieson, who finished second in 4 minutes 15.91 seconds, also booked her spot in the team for Osaka tonight.

Corrigan, 22, has stalked national record holder Jamieson all season, regularly sitting on the Victorian's shoulder before using her speed in the final lap.

"It's really giving me confidence now to keep going and become the best," said the ACT based Corrigan, who won in 4:15.25.

"I want to get back into training and really give it a shot at the World Championships.

"I'm probably not quite up in the medals yet but it would be good to make a final, that would be fantastic."
