Muster day for junior cricket on October 15

20 Sep, 2006 07:47 AM
On Sunday October 15 at 10.00am at the top playing field the junior cricket muster day will take place for the season which commences on the following Saturday October 21, 2006.

The muster and registration day will also include a cricket match for anyone who wishes to have a hit and also includes a barbeque.

All players are expected to sign on that day and pay their fees.

We are also requesting that parents come and stay and get involved in your son's or daughter's team.

It's not difficult.

On the day just find big bad Tony Beath and ask him how much fun there is to be had and how easy it is to learn about junior cricket.

If Tony can master things about Saturday morning cricket any one can!

Big bad Matt Devlin (yes, there's two of them) has requested that all coaches, managers and parents be present so he can inform everyone of what is happening on Saturday morning.

Matt intends to tell parents and players news direct from the Cowra Association of what is expected and any changes that may be in force different to last season.

Remember, the more parents that assist on Saturday mornings the easier it is for the coaches.

We are also looking for parents that may help with the under 10s. This age division plays at River Park every Saturday morning from 9.00am to around 11.00am.

This is where most parents are first introduced to cricket with their children and it is a great experience.

We have progressed to having the littlies Milo in Canowindra on Saturday mornings for ages four (4) to eight (8) and parents are also encouraged to get involved in the basics of cricket like throwing, catching and fielding.

This is all good for a child's coordination with a very soft ball.

There are terrific give-aways all for $40.00. Times for Milo are 9.00am to about 10.30am every Saturday morning commencing late October or early November 2006.

And you do not have to drive to Cowra. That's a bonus in itself!

Other fees are $65.00 for one child, $100.00 for two children and $130.00 for three or more children.

Girls are very much welcome and can play up to 18 months over their own age.

Training takes place this week for under 12s, under 14s and again for under 16s. The under 12s are to meet on Thursday at 3.30pm at the nets.

The under 14s are to train on Wednesday afternoons at 4.30pm at the nets and the big bad (yes, there's heaps of them) under 16s will train after school at the High School nets.

There was enough under 16 boys for one team who trained last week so anyone else intending a game in the under 16s better turn up or ring John Guthrie so we can purchase another kit and organise coaches.

We also intend to put on a scoring night or later afternoon scoring session for anyone interested.

Just ask "The Wizz" Jen Lamond as Jen progressed through the Canowindra Academy of "In the Stylish Art of Cricket Scoring" before the start of last season.

Jen achieved a score of 97.5 per cent which caused sons Tommy and Conor to treat their mother with new found respect.

Anyone interested in learning how to score just ask Matt Devlin, Craig Rue, Sue Blair or John Guthrie.

For those players intending to play any form of representative cricket this season the first of the Cowra trials are on this Saturday morning a the River Park nets between 10.00am and 2.00pm.

If you would like to play representative cricket or at least try out, just come along. There will be a familiar face somewhere in the crowd.

Just remember one thing, Cowra have their registration morning on at the same time this Saturday so please do not register with Cowra!

Save your registrations for our muster day.

Finally for this week, remember that registrations can be got at all leading schools in Canowindra.

Just complete with your registration monies and bring along on Sunday October 15, 2006.
