The new season of Little Athletics is nearly upon us and this year we have a new coach with Bob Carline, Head Teacher of the English Department from Canowindra High School.
He is the current Western Regional Manager for Secondary Athletics and has had over 30 years experience as an athlete and coach, beginning with the Randwick/ Botany Harriers (oldest athletics club in NSW) under Ken Steward (Head Coach at Munich Olympics) to coaching school teams/managing Regional Athletics on the North Coast for 20 years.
He has formal coaching accreditation as a Level 1 coach in sprints/ jumps and throws and has had success with a number of athletes over that period at both State and National level.
Registration day will be held Wednesday 20th September) and 27th September at 4.30 pm - 5.30 pm at the Oval, Tilga Street, Canowindra.
Athletes being registered for the first time must have proof of their date of birth such as their birth certificate or clinic book.
Little Athletics is for children from four years to 15 years inclusive. Open athletes who are 15 years and older are also welcome and encouraged to participate.
Athletes will participate in various track and field events each week and a pointscore will be kept for each athlete based on participation and self improvement. Trophies will be presented to winners of various age groups at the end of the season.
Sport is for enjoyment so that it becomes a lifestyle choice and in athletics, it is about establishing good technique to avoid injury and provide a solid platform for success both within the sport and as a cross-training activity ie to improve sprinting technique to be faster in soccer, athletics or football.
Little Athletics is lots of fun and a great way for children to make new friends in their community. Enquiries can be made to Leanne Stevenson 63441586 or Narelle Hughes 63448353
