New President elected to Canowindra squash

02 Dec, 2009 11:31 AM
The annual general meeting of Canowindra Squash was held with a full quorum last week, announcing a new President in Jacqui Kinsella, with retiring President Hellen McSpadden taking a well earnt spell after three years.

Retaining their positions as secretary and treasurer are two tried and proven members. Amber Meurs and Amara Flannery respectively with Phil McNeice and Sandy McDonald as publicity officer.

Many thanks to all who attended and those who undertook positions on the executive and committee.

Well Done.

Our Christmas party will be held on Saturday December 14, at the Super Refurbished tennis courts in form of a BBQ, and all players and families are welcome.

So bring along your racquets and have a hit!

Also please nominate on Club Notice Board your choice of salad or sweet to add to the feast.

With the help of our champion Junior, Rohan Toole and mum Leone, Junior Squash has been running quietly along on Monday after school, now this enterprising young man is sharing his skills with a learner group on Tuesdays from 4pm to 5pm at $2 a session.

If interested phone 63442093.

Half way through this final competition for 2009, leaders in each grade, Phil McNeice – B Grade, level pegging for C Grade are Helen McSpadden and Annette Blanche and holding the lead for D Grade is Angela Ellis.

Good to welcome new players Karl, Adam and Cory, and we hope the New Year will see Troy back in action again.

The cool change on Monday was sooo good, for Ladies Squash with such improvement evident in fitness, strength and skills.

Laughter and fun remain: The theme for Monday nights and it’s definitely NOT all about winning although it’s a bonus when you do.

Some scores for the week were Kobi Rogers went down to Donna Mirto 50-69 in a good match of long rallies and great court coverage by both girls.

Helen Tinney narrowly defeated Jo Bell 57-53 in a very friendly match.

Ange Ellis lost to Liz Noble 49-58 with fine rallies.

Helen McSpadden just missed out against Jacqui Kinsella 50-54.

A Helen commented “it was just a matter of time!” (Happens to us all)

Sandy McDonald resorted to treachery when she kept the lead narrowly against Wendy Bowman 57-54.

Thursday comp saw many subs needed. Thanks to those who fill in at short notice, often two or three matches in a night, especially Jonno Preston.

Carolyn Austin defeated Jacqui Kinsella in an amazing fast game with super court coverage, rallies and drop shots.

Wow girls!

Super woman Amber Meurs went down to Rohan Toole, but has only recently gone ‘up to A grade and is really going great strokes for girl power, against all the guys.

Pretty to watch Amber.

After defeating Jonno earlier, Phil McNeice went on to beat Cate McSpadden.

Not bad for an old master.

Don’t forget nominations for next year’s summer competition will soon be called, so please when putting down for it, state if you need a special time for your game, or to be finished by a certain time.

Also if you nominate for a place in a comp, you are required to pay full comp fees even if you are away for any length of time, and do not play every game.
