Sunday’s weather conditions at Grenfell did nothing to help the display of good fast disciplined rugby league played at the major semi finals of the Woodbridge Cup.
In a very tight game over Open Juniors were defeated by Grenfell 8 to 6. In heavy rain, the young Tigers played extremely well in a game that could have gone either way.
A try was scored by Rhys Cain and a goal kicked by Joe Wanless.
The boys now play Eugowra at Boorowa in Sunday’s final at 12.30pmn.
In a very disappointing but commendable finish, the Tigers were to lose their major semi final by one try after 100 minutes of rugby league.
With rain falling for the whole game at the end of 80 minutes of hard slog in the wet conditions, the score was drawn at 30 all.
Going into extra time luck was against Canowindra who added 6 points to 10 points, the final score went to Eugowra 40 to 36.
Try scorers were 2 to Craig Newcombe with one each to Troy McClintock, Craig Earsman, Tim Kennedy, Josh Lynch and Greg Hogan. Luke Fliedner added four goals.
The coach was very disappointed for the boys who gave all they had for the full 100 minutes.
With nine of the team still only 19 and 20 years old, Canowindra has a great future.
Congratulate the boys they are very deserving of our community’s support.
