 Pythons defeated in local derby

Pythons defeated in local derby

26 Jul, 2006 08:03 AM
Last weekend saw Canowindra head over to Cowra for the last game of our local derbies which has seen Canowindra play Cowra four times this season. All though the final results didn't go Canowindra's way there were some very gutsy efforts by everyone who pulled on the boots.

Everyone is especially proud of the Colts this year.

For Canowindra with its small population to field a under 19's team is I think a huge achievement.

Everyone of you in the under 19s team who played this year should give yourselves a pat on the back and look forward to a better stronger and more experienced team in 2007.

Last weekend's game saw the points go to 2pts to the captain Chuck Lawrence, 3pts and players player to Daniel Augustin who has taken to his role as halfback this year like a duck to water, congratulations Daniel.

The second grade team had some great games this year and goes to show the talent of rugby players Canowindra has to offer.

We have been a competitive team for most of the year and maybe with a bit more effort next year we could be seriously looking at a spot in the finals.

A big thank you to everyone who helped us out by having a run this year and hope to see you doing the same thing next year.

2nd grade points on Saturday saw Cumbo with one point, Nathan Cartwright 2pts and Pat Kennedy with 3pts.

Players player went to Mat Parker.

In 1st grade most years we have the problem of not putting the same team on the field two weeks running but this year you have changed all that.

Your dedication has been outstanding this year and in part has had a lot to do with Canowindra being a competitive force in this competition which no one thought we would be.

No team has played us with an attitude any less than they are up for a physical and competitive game, well done guys you have done your club and supporters proud!

1st grade points went to 1pt Joe Wythes/Matt Pearce, 2pts to Carpo and 3pts to Sam Wythes.

Players player went to Matt Pearce who proved to be a huge asset to the club on the weekend with Rolls down at the snow.

This weekend is our last game for the year at home against Parkes games start at the normal times with colts starting at 12:45 and the other two following.

So to all our supporters come along and show the players how much you have appreciated their effort and enjoyed watching them this year and let's enjoy our last game for the year and make it a big one.

There will be entertainment on in the clubhouse after the game and if everyone could hang around for the presentations we will be having our monster members draw to finish off the year.

I would like to thank all our sponsors this year for their generous support as without this 2006 would not have been possible to take the club to where it is now.

I would also like to remind the players if you have not paid your rego fees by this Sunday you will not be eligible for your shirt or jumper at this year's presentation.

If you don't have the money please came and see myself or Cecil Balcombe and we can make arrangements.

One last thing is this Sunday we are having a rock picking drive for Tod Wyburn to raise some money to help him along after his terrible accident.

It would be appreciated if everyone could please attend as the Townsends have gladly agreed to pay us for everyone who turns up and give that money to Tod.

There will be a bbq lunch on the day. Please meet at the clubhouse at 9am

Ross Butler, President
