Team play a feature of Under 7s soccer match

26 Jul, 2006 08:03 AM
After a long break due to weather cancellations, school holidays and family gatherings in Victoria, the soccer reports finally return to the Canowindra News!

The players all obviously welcomed being out on the field again, and some wonderful soccer was displayed during the morning.

UNDER SEVENS

WALLABIES (2) V KOOKABURRAS (0).

Although defeated on the day, the Kookas treated all supporters to a magnificent display of team play. Joanna and Tim were great in goals. Jonah, Alarna and Anna were fearless in attack and were well-supported by Tom, Trent and Ciaran. The trophy was won this week by a very brave Anna. Well done to all the players!

The Wallabies put in a good team effort, with terrific goal keeping by Cameron and Axton and two excellent goals by Riley. The defending by the girls Kaitlyn, Georgina and Josephine was impressive. Work in the middle by Lachlan and Oliver as always was very good.

UNDER EIGHTS

HAWKS (6) V COWRA TYRE DINGOES (1).

After a few weeks break from soccer for the Hawks the team came back on fire. It was a wonderful team effort with lots of passing through to each other. Great goalie work by Matt H and Matt S was supported with strong attack by Hayley, Renae, Cass, Matt Cramp, Lachie and Bec. Goals were scored by Matt H (2), Lachie, Bec(2) and Matt S. Go team!

For the Dingoes, Chloe did a great job in goals with some powerful kicks coming her way. Cameron put his body on the line to save two goals, and Allan defended well in the backs. Jordan, Ethan and Sky were always there to support their team. As usual Brandon was everywhere, prepared to score. The Dingoes also passed the ball to each other really well. Thanks to Drew for filling in. Player of the week was Allan Read.

UNDER TENS

WOLVES (4) V LVA UNITED (1).

Well, the Wolves finally got to have a game this week, and it was a terrific game between two good teams. Jack started off strong at the back. Tim, Ben and Jake were working the ball and finding gaps all over the pitch. Meg, Aidan and Zac defended very well, helping out Jack continually. Teagan and Montana worked really hard out wide, and Brittany and Paris tried non-stop the entire match. Two goals each were scored by Tim and Ben. Ali Beath worked hard all around the ground as usual. It was a great win considering all who were sick. Let's keep on having fun, team!

For United, it was a great game by all, with much better communication on the ground. Let's keep working hard at training and continue to improve our positional play. Well done all.

STALLIONS (2) V 'I-CAN'T -REMEMBER'(4).

This match card didn't make it home with me, and yes, even though I watched the game, I haven't got a clue who it was we were playing. Very well-drilled and skilled they were, although our Canowindra team fought back bravely and only went down by two goals. Cormac informs me that it was terrier-like Pete Mac who scored both of the Stallions' goals, and I will have to take his word for it as I didn't actually witness either of them.

THIRTEENS

STALLIONS (2) V UNITED(0).

Three weeks off agreed with the ‘Stallions' as they played like they were channelling the Socceroos. Teamwork gelled as each player stuck to their position and played like Trojans. Bella O'Ryan, James Russell and Ashley Sevil were impenetrable in the back as they held United scoreless. Tanisha Whatman, Natalie Hare, Jesse Richards and Ebony Watson formed a fluid line at the midfield, absorbing United's attacking raids before turning defence into attack as they fed the ball forward to Amy Banks, Nicole Stevenson and Caitlin Walker up front. Nicole Stevenson scored the ‘Stallions' two goals, the second after a pinpoint cross from Teiya Thornberry. Jesse was unlucky not to make it three goals as his attempt hit the cross bar late in the second half. It was an excellent performance from the entire 11 as the Stallions played their best game of the season so far.

No report from United.

SIXTEENS: WOLVES (3) V STALLIONS (1).

The Wolves had an outstanding game after three weeks off. Bonny Wythes excelled in defence, with Kristy White, Brendan Zahra and Michelle Tremain in support. Fantastic goals were scored by Pete Guthrie, Michael Sheehan and Murray Bennett. Peta Edwards and Jamie Thornberry were strong in the midfield. Well done Wolves and congratulations on your great enthusiasm and team spirit.

The Stallions were slow out of the blocks, but they finished very strongly. Karina was a sterling defender, holding out many advances. Lachlan scored a great goal and there were many more close misses. All forwards and mids played well as a team and had many opportunities. Jamie-Lee worked magic on the right side.
