Rohan Toole has returned from Rockhampton victorious with two Under 13 squash national titles, without dropping a set.
Toole was one of two NSW players to earn a title, but the only one to win two.
This is an amazing feat, considering Canowindra hasn’t got a junior competition, and he has to train on his own most of the time.
The heat and humidity associated with playing in the Tropics was hard, but Toole acclimatised and went through all matches, in both events without dropping a game.
Three national squash championships are held over the year, but two titles are held
consecutively at the one venue to cut travel costs, which in turn opens the tournament to players from around the world.
The 13 year old defeated the Queensland champion in the first four day event, the Casey Sinclair Classic and then defeated New Zealand Champion in the second three day event, the Peta Hughes Classic.
The third and final event is to be held in Sydney this October.
“I was hoping to place in the top five, so I am
really happy,” Rohan said.
To add more glory to his performance, Toole was one of the few players awarded a certificate from the organisers for his sportsmanship and attitude on and off the court.
Toole’s next major tournament is The Malaysian International in May and then The
Penang International Open in June.
“I am hoping to be in the top half of the draw when I play in the Malaysian International,” Rohan said.
