Well what an exciting day for Canowindra Junior Rugby League!! With the Canowindra Services Clubs U10's and the Kitome U16's set to battle for the premiership titles. It was set to be a great day of footy. Our mighty U8's played in the curtain raiser for the day with a quick round robin, all receiving medallions on the day for their efforts. Thankyou to Cindy Watt for organising our monster raffle on the Day and for all parents who helped sell tickets. Also thankyou to all the people who supported our kids on the day as spectators and organisers!
Congratulations to Greg Middleton who was the winner of our major raffle.
Canowindra Services Club U10 Premiers
With all the spectators on the edge of their seats in anticipation the U10's finally kicked off on the coldest and wet day of footy yet.
This young team of players all deserve a special mention after the outstanding game of football played at Parkes in the Grand Final last Saturday against Forbes Magpies. The team consisted of Bradyn Cassidy, Jordi Brown, Josh Trayhurn, Sam McKenzie, Talby Upton, Jumara Cutmore, Rohan Toole, Dan Friend, Bailey Cain, Louis O'Keeffe, Alex Willson, Harry Whatman, Tara Jenkins, Zak Whitehead, Warren Ackroyd, Tylah Reid and Robbie Weigold.
It was a game of great defence by both teams. Bradyn Cassidy was the first try scorer of the game which he successfully converted. Josh Trayhurn made up ground for the team. Harry Whatman had a great run passing the ball off to Bradyn Cassidy who went over to score the team's second try of the game which Alex Willson successfully converted. Forbes Magpies going over to score their first try of the game which was successfully converted. Wasting no time at all the Magpies flew over the try line again to score their second try of the game which they also successfully converted. The pressure was showing with both teams making a few silly mistakes, finishing the first half Tigers 12 - Magpies 12.
Both teams took the field in the second half showing the spectators a great game of football, after recovering from their nerves. Bradyn Cassidy once again received the ball to score the first try of the second half which Rohan Toole successfully converted. Great defence and attack by both teams. The team once again passing the ball off to Bradyn who scored his fourth try of the game which was converted by Bailey Cain making the full time score Canowindra Tigers 24 - Forbes Magpies 12. The crowd erupted with cheer, and the team were soon swamped by proud parents and supporters. The team finally gave us a victory cry which put goose bumps all over. Go the Mighty Tigers!
Congratulations to Coach Ken Willson and Trainer Brock White. A big thank you to everyone who travelled to Parkes on Saturday to show their support, it was great to see so many locals turn up to watch the game and share in the team's elation after their win.
Harry Whatman, Alex Willson and Josh Trayhurn had great games in defence with Harry topping the tackle count on 19, Alex on 16 and Josh on 14, closely followed by Rohan Toole, Braydn Cassidy and Bailey Cain. Tara Jenkins also deserving a mention for her biggest effort this season in defence! Harry Whatman and Alex Willson had great games in attack topping the hitups on 16 each closely followed by Bradyn Cassidy and Bailey Cain. Not everyone managed a hitup in this game but everyone on the team had stats for tackles. It was a mighty fine effort by the whole team.
Harry Whatman received a trophy for Player of the Grand Final and Bradyn Cassidy received a trophy for Parkes and District U10's Player of the year runner up. Congratulations boys. All players received a trophy for their effort and Captain Alex Willson accepted the U10's Parkes & District Premiership Shield on behalf of the team and club which will be on display at the Services Club.
Thank you to Ray Melhuish for attending on behalf of the Services Club Canowindra who's the team Sponsor. A special mention goes to Noelene and Ken from Ben Halls Kitchen, at the Royal Hotel for their generous donation of a Pizza voucher for Players Player during the second round. The Players Player last weekend was Bradyn Cassidy and for his dedication all season, Dan Friend, both received a voucher.
Good luck this weekend when you travel to Dubbo to play in the Dubbo and District Grand Final at Apex Oval.
Congratulations to all U10 players and Staff for a mighty effort and a brilliant season.
Kitome U16 2006 Grandfinalists
With the U10's overwhelming win the pressure mounted for the Mighty U16's who had the longest and most nerve racking wait in history! With supporters holding their breaths, the Time Had Come. It was finally time to take the field. With faces so focussed and adrenaline pumping the boys took the field with their heads held high. Kick off time and the mighty Tigers gave every tackle their all. The crowd cringed every time Parkes tried to go through the Tigers line. Ronald, Cho, Kyle, Piggy, Brad B and actually every player made some spine altering tackles during the entire game. Unfortunately they were at a loss when team Captain Kane Trayhurn injured his ankle in the first 5 minutes of the game, the disappointment of not being able to play bit harder than the pain from the injury. The Tigers however lifted and kept on absolutely pulverising Parkes. Parkes finally worked out that they could not go through the Tigers so they put the foot down and with great speed went around to score. Tigers did not seem to budge and held their amazing defences and with some brilliant leg work from Haydon Hodge the Tigers were on the board with the conversion unsuccessful. Haydon also made some spectacular try saving tackles throughout the game. Ronny, Piggy, Kyle and Cho tried hard to make gaps for Aaron Woolley, Anthony T and Brad Tangye who came so close to the line with some hard and fast runs. At this stage of the game it was almost the end of first half and Parkes who had all the confidence in the world pulled of some awesome plays that they plucked out of somewhere. Parkes were now in front. With the Tigers giving the game everything they had they looked like they were at war, muddy and tired they kept battling on. As the fatigue set in late in the second half Parkes took advantage and with such a depth of talent ran in some great tries. The Tigers were helpless in trying to read Parkes next move as they mixed it right up. Tigers however played the hardest and most physical game of the season. With the score line irrelevant to the players powered on.
A beautiful try came from Aaron Wooley to urge the Tigers on,with some great leg work from Piggy. Nigel, Stuart G, Stuart S, Aaron E, Michael Traves, Abram, Keiran and Nick Whatman all put in a mighty effort. Parkes however ran away with the game 40-8.
The Tigers have had a great season with all the players developing throughout the season into some fine Footy Players.
Congratulations to Garry, Cods, Therese and Graham for their outstanding support and guidance.

Ronald Lawrence received the well deserved Man of the Game. Usually this award is given to a player on the winning side, but Ronald played the most outstanding and gutsy game ever which was commended by the judges. Congratulations Ronald on a job well done!!!!
