The last time President Col Tangye’s children played a Canowindra Junior League match was five years ago, but the lack of volunteers for the committee has resulted in him staying on board to help out.
But he’s looking ahead and realizing that many committee members’ children will finish their playing season too this year or next, which will further dry up the small pool of parents involved with the committee.
Col stressed the strain of not enough volunteers was seriously affecting the future viability of the proud club.
“Many hands make light work,” he quipped.
“We get a lot of people who can help out on a day or for an hour or two, but we really need that commitment to continue through the season.”
The President stressed the involvement is open to all adults – children playing in the club are not necessary.
“We just need a variety of people – trainers, managers, coaches – to help share the load and let a few of us look at actually managing to retire.
“We need parents and other adults interested in junior sport to support the next generation of league players in Canowindra.”
Applications for the positions of coaches, trainer and managers across all age groups of Canowindra Junior League now close on Friday, January 27, at 7pm at the Canowindra Bowling Club.
Application forms can be picked up at Lawrence’s IGA or Ken’s Service
Centre.
Registration days will be held on February 2, 7 and 9, for all age groups. Players must be registered before they can start training.
Round one of the season for the club begins on March 17.
It’s an exciting season ahead for Rugby League in Canowindra, Mr Tangye said, with the Penrith Panthers’ upcoming visit a highlight.
