Friday footy is coming

22 Apr, 2009 08:44 AM
Friday night Rugby League comes to Canowindra this Friday.

With Anzac ceremonies being held on Saturday both clubs, the Tigers and Cargo Blue Heelers agreed to play the game on Friday night.

Canowindra under 18’s will take on Orange Hawks in a trial game kicking off at 6.00pm.

The young Tigers have 20 players signed for the 2009 season and all are available for the game.

Grenfell have been a late withdrawal from the under 18s competition.

With Canowindra, Condobolin and Peak Hill having 60 players between them it was decided to forge ahead with a short competition.

The junior Tigers play their first competition game on May 17.

They will play nine games in 12 weeks, playing before the senior side on seven of those occasions.

Canowindra Tigers Senior squad open their Woodbridge Cup campaign against defending premiers Cargo Blue Heelers at 7.30pm.

It will be a new look Tigers outfit taking the field, with four rookies and six new faces in the squad.

Canowindra’s defence will have to be at their best to contain the fast Cargo backline.

Although if the Tigers can control the ball they may have plenty of points in them with youngsters Aaron Woolley, Jacob Hodge and Anthony Gaetta, joining Phil Butler and Shaun Craven in the speed department.
