Canowindra Junior Tigers v West Wyalong
Under 8s
The Chris Williams Under 8s took the field first and the side shows promise for the season ahead.
Quite a few new faces have coach Aaron Reid beaming as he has eleven players to chose from this year.
Josh Middleton score two trys while Austin Pengilly score his first try for the Canowindra Junior tigers
Josh Middleton landed the teams only conversion which added up to the teams 14 points.
West Wyalong ran out winners 24 – 14.
Under 10s
The Canowindra Services Club Under 10’s battled hard in the heat as they held their own throughout the first half.
However West Wyalong ran away with it in the second half and finished at 28-6.
Jordan Kemper scored the teams only try but with a little time, and cooler weather, the team will improve.
Thanks go to Andrew Cutmore and Max Coady who backed up for the 10s after both played in the 8s.
Under 12s
The Earsmans Mixed Concrete Under 12s began this season where the 11s left off last year in the winners circle as they held West Wyalong scoreless, 26 -0.
Callum Clyburn led the try scoring from five eight with two trys while Jordie Brown scored on from half back.
Zac Whitehead added to the try scoring from fullback while Gene Tarrant used his bulk and scored a try from prop.
Max Wensley crossed the line for the teams last try which he also converted which made up the teams 26 points.
The score could have been greater if the conversions had gone between the posts but this will give the coach something to do at training this weeks as the boys get used to taking their conversions away from the posts where the try is scored.
Under14s
The Canowindra Produce under 14s carried on their form from last year as with a playing roster of 21, they could rotate in the heat and they ran out winners 70-0.
Jayden Brown had scored the teams first try with a strong run under the posts.
His conversion attempt lacked the conviction of his run but just minutes later he was over the line again in the left corner and the score was 8-0.
The kick off went straight to Alex Willson who took the ball over the half way line from where Josh Trayhurn was soon under the posts for the teams third try and the score was 14 -0 after Bradyn Cassidy landed the conversion.
The Trayhurn – Cassidy combination saw the score stretch six points more soon after.
Centre Isaac Beath capped off some strong running with a try in the right hand corner after good lead up work from Tim Middleton.
Jared Zahra scored his first try for the Tigers with a strong run which ended under the posts and after Ben Bermingham added the conversion the score was 30-0.
Half time was looming but Alex Willson had one dash left for the half which took him over the line and under the black dot and half time blew just after he kicked the conversion.
After half time Josh and Jayden scored their third trys, both of which Jayden converted.
Michael Watt made it 60 points after he crossed the try line and placed the ball next to the uprights from where Harry Whatman made the conversion look easy.
Another try each to Jared Zahra and Jayden Brown and a conversion to Rohan Toole made the full time score 70-0.
Under16s
The Ken’s Service Centre Under 16s played a trial game against Grenfell Goannas with both teams only 13 players and the game was played in 20 minute thirds.
The game was tight early as both sides adjusted to the heat, which may have accounted for the amount of dropped ball from both sides.
The halves combination of Luke Watt and Dan Middleton led to the first Tigers try as the ball went along the back line and Josh Cooney forced his way over the line after it looked as though he had been held.
This was the score at third time although before the siren sounded hooker Angus Clulow lived up to his position and got a tight head and possession for the Tigers which prevented a Grenfell counter attack.
The 16s stretched their lead after the break with a novel switcheroo at dummy half which saw Luke Watt deceive the defence and go over for a four pointer.
Just before the next break Jack Knight burst onto the ball, through the defence, and over the line under the black dot, from where Luke Watt landed the conversion for a fourteen point lead.
Jack was back over the line after the break after Josh Cooney took play to the try line.
Elijah Beath ran down the sideline and took play inside Grenfell’s quarter from where Luke forced his way over for another try.
Nick Willson capped a great game at fullback with a strong run down he left line before Harry Myers finished off over the line for a 28 point lead.
Dan Middleton was next over the line after good passing along the back line and Blake Willson showed his strong running and tackling hadn’t affected his aim as he steered the conversion between the posts.
Jack Knight made it three trys as he ran off the back of the ruck and over the line from where Dan added the extras for a 34 point win.
This week the Tigers play Cabonne at the Oval where the weather will be cooler and the games closer as the competition gets closer.
Could all parents please consider helping out in the canteen either half and hour before or after their child’s game as this spreads out the effort and means everyone gets to watch their child play.
