Junior Tigers take on the Cabonne Roos

01 Apr, 2009 10:36 AM
The Cabonne Roos arrived at the Oval on Saturday and the Junior Tigers overcame them in the three middle games.

Under 8s

The Chris Williams under 8s inexperienced showed as Cabonne ran out winners nine trys to one.

However coach Aaron Reid together with the older players, Codie Reid, Max Coady, Andrew Cutmore and Josh Middleton will show the younger players the rules and together they will get better as the year goes on.

New players Austin Pengilly, Harrison and Lachlan Warne, Nicholas Jeffrey, Isaac Track and Finbar Smyth will soon learn the rules and which way to run.

Jake Fisher crossed the line for the 8s and it won’t be long before Will Ellis does the same thing.

The season looks promising for the 8s as it has been quite a while since the team has had so many players.

Under 11s

The Under 10s became the Under 11s this week as Cabonne Roos had 11s and not tens and the Tigers 11s emerged victorious 26 -14.

The Tigers were just a little too good for their opposition with five players scoring a try apiece The backs scored four trys as Jordan Kemper, Max Wensley, Nathan Whatman and Callum Clyburn crossed the line while Kevin Beath ran in a try from the forwards.

Jordan, Max and Callum landed their conversions which added up to their tally of twenty four points while Cabonne scored three trys of their own and converted just one.

This week against Parkes the 11s go back to the 10s and 12s.

Under 12s

The Earsmans Concrete Under 12s had a much closer game this week and came away narrow winners 16 – 12.

Cabonne shocked the Tigers as they scored a converted try inside the first two minutes and established a six point lead.

Lack of possession meant the Tigers had to defend grimly with Zac Whitehead and Tylah Reid combining for strong tackles.

When the 12s finally got the ball a strong run from Zac took them inside the Roos half but not quite over the line.

It took an intercept from speedster Jumara Cutmore to put the 12s first points on the board and lock the score up at 6 all after Callum Clyburn kicked the conversion.

Cabonne hit back with another converted try which regained their six point lead.

Gene Tarrant and Nathan Whatman were determined that would be the Roos last score as they tackled strongly and prevented further scores.

Cabonne defence was as good as the Tigers found it difficult to cross the line until Callum sidestepped the defence and somersaulted over the line to score.

The try was unconverted which left the Tigers 12s two points behind.

The game breaker came as Cabonne dropped the ball which was kicked through by Jumara who ponced on the ball and scored the try.

A spectacular conversion from Zac Whitehead from a wide angle ensured the Tigers win by 16-12.

Under14s

The Canowindra Produce Under 14s faced a much stiffer opposition as the Roos had a couple of large players in the forwards but they still managed to run out winners 56-10.

It was a bit of a tight tussle in the

beginning as both sides were testing the others defence and it was Jayden Brown who crossed the line first as he placed the ball just inside the left corner post for a four point lead.

A strong surge from Curtis Hughes laid the groundwork for the next try as Josh Trayhurn surged through the defence and scored near the left upright and the 14s led 8-0.

Strong defence from the Tigers caused a turnover close to the Roos line and two plays later Rohan Toole darted through a gap in the defence and the lead stretched to twelve points.

The 14s then had to defend as Cabonne got possession and only strong tackles from Lachlan Clulow, Alex Willson Jayden and Simon Whatman kept Cabonne scoreless.

Quick thinking from Alex led to the 14s next try as he pounced on a loose ball and dived over the line for another four pointer.

Josh Trayhurn prevented a certain try with a bootlace tackle on he rampaging Cabonne number 8 before Isaac ‘Israel’ Beath darted through the Roos defence and around behind the posts from where Tim Middleton finally landed the 14s first

conversion for a 22 point lead.

The half time score was 32 -0 after Alex scored his second try, again converted by Tim Middleton, and Bailey Cain scored right on the half time siren.

Despite running up hill in the second half the Tigers stretched their lead as Josh Trayhurn ran through what seemed like the entire Cabonne team with out a hand laid on him and the 14s led by thirty six points.

Cabonne hit back with two trys and one conversion which narrowed the gap to twenty six points and only good defence from Michael Watt, Jared Zahra and Tim Middleton prevented Cabonne adding more points.

Trys to Jayden and Bradyn Cassidy, both converted by Tim Middleton, restored the Tigers to prominence as the score stretched to 48-10.

Isaac Beath scored his second try as he regathered a kick ahead and Simon Whatman scored on the full time siren, a just reward for his defensive effort through out the game, for a full time score of 56-10.

Under16s

The Ken’s Service Centre Under 16s couldn’t match their effort from last week as they went down to the Cabonne Roos 30-4.

Cabonne broke the Tigers line in the first five minutes and scored an unconverted try for a four point lead.

Then both sides settled down as big hits and strong runs saw play go from try line to try line without either being crossed again.

Josh Cooney, Jack Knight, Dan Middleton, Sam Barker and Elijah Beath made ground with every possession while Blake Willson, Josh, Harry Myers, Luke Watt and Gerard Eppulstun made sure the 16s line was uncrossed again in the first half.

Soon after the break Cabonne ran in two quick trys which stretched the lead to

fourteen points.

A kick on the fifth tackle from Dan resulted in a dropped ball from Cabonne which Luke Watt grabbed and regained

possession for the Tigers.

From the next play Josh Cooney forced his way over the line and the deficit was reduced to ten points, 14-4.

Cabonne ran in three more trys and ran out winners 30-4.

This week sees the Tigers first road trip as they take on Parkes at Parkes before a two week break for the school holidays.

A final note is to thank Lawrence’s IGA for their donation of drinks to the Junior Tigers, over the past two very hot home games those drinks have been very welcome so thank you once again Lawrence’s IGA for you generosity.
