After an hiatus due to match byes and sickness here finally is the Junior Tigers report on the adventures at The Oval against Forbes Magpies.
Under 8's
The Under 8's opened up proceedings with a convincing display against the Magpies.
Max Coady, Andrew Cutmore and Codie Reid ran the ball at every opportunity as the made the most of the space on the field.
n continued on page 15.
Josh Middleton and Brooke Donelly were always there to back up the ball runner and combine with their team-mates in defence to stop Forbes from getting too close to scoring.
Angus Fisher and Jacob Fisher scored a try each while Shae Reid had a good game with three try of his own.
Max and Andrew converted one try a piece while Joe Coady was a sprinting machine as he out-stepped and out thought the opposition four times as he scored a quadrella of trys.
A conversion to Max was the sum total of the eights points while right on the siren Billie Dukes ran through the Tigers defence and scored a try for the Magpies.
Under 10's
The Under 10's started where the 8's left off as Callum Clyburn had the first of his three trys on the board soon after the opening whistle.
Cal's exuberant runs were supported by some terrific play from Max Wensley and Will Middleton who had their best games of the season so far.
Sam Willson, Nathan Whatman and Will scored individual trys while Dyllan Crump, Jordan Kemper and Shaun Ovington added to the total with a conversion each.
Cal took his tally for the game to fourteen points as he converted one of his own trys.
Excellent defence from the whole team ensured that their line remained uncrossed and ran out winners 32 -0.
Under 11's
The Under 11's went on a try scoring spree as the eleven year olds were backed up by some enthusiastic ten year olds and they scored eleven trys to one for a full time score of 56-4.
Speed around the field was the key to the dominance as speedsters Jumara Cutmore, Cal Clyburn and Zak Whitehead created gaps everywhere and scored trys at will.
Zak and Jumara scored two each while Cal made it look easy with another converted try to back up his three from the earlier game.
Gene Tarrant and Daniel Friend kept the forwards flag flying with a try and a conversion each while Tylah Reid and Jake Donelly steered the ball through the uprights for a conversion of their own.
It was Jake Wythes who used his zippiness in close, as he ran in three trys, and converted one, which took the heart out of the Magpie defence.
Forbes's points came from a try to B. Herbert which was unconverted.
Under 12's
The Under 12's continued on their winning way with a forty point to six win over their Magpie opposition.
Your correspondent will apologise at the beginning because of a couple of unannounced point scorers which failed to get written down so will not get their proper acknowledgement.
Multiple try scores again featured in this game as team mates became team mates again after being on opposite sides at the Peachey Shield competition through the week.
Full back Bradyn Cassidy led the way with four trys while centre partner Josh Trayhurn was one behind with a trifecta of trys.
Conversions were spread around as usual as the dynamic duo at half, Pete McNamara and Rohan Toole kicking one each while Tim Middleton and Alex Willson used their forward power to add the extras to two more trys.
Forbes' points came from a try to B. Schofield and a conversion to Carl Weekes.
The twelve's impressive start to the season continues and playing together through the week as well can only add to the improvement over the season.
Under 14's
The Ever improving Under 14's looked to continue the Tiger dominance but a couple of slippery players from Forbes saw the Magpies run out winners 42-14.
The Magpies ran in three quick trys before the Tigers could settle down but strong runs from Isaac Beath, Jayden Brown and Troy Jenkins saw the 14's play the latter of the first half in magpie territory.
Despite more committed hit ups from Jack Knight, Blake Willson, Harry Myers and Kain Earsman Forbes went to the break down by twenty two points.
Two more trys from Forbes after the break and it looked like a blow out but the Tiger regrouped and after some deft backline passing Jack Knight took the ball straightened the attack and was over the line near the uprights.
Blake Willson added the extras and the 14's were finally on the board.
The 14's were revitalised and minutes later were awarded a penalty inside the Magpie's quarter.
A dummy half run from the inspired Jack Knight which caught the defence dozing, saw Jack score his second try near the left corner post.
The 14's final score came as a just reward for Troy Jenkins who finished off some polished backline passing with a determined run around and through the magpies defence for a try in the left corner.
The angle did the kicker no favours and the full time score finished at 42-14.
Under 16's
The Kithome Under 16's played a see-sawing match with their Magpie opposition and finally went down 32-12.
Hooker Brodie Friend opened up the scoring with a zippy run from dummy half which finished up with a try under the black dot.
Brydon Hughes added the extras and the Tigers led by six points, however it was soon locked up at six all as Forbes hit back with a converted try of their own.
Committed hit ups from Kelton Morgan-Smith and Mitchell Bridge made ground every time they got the ball while James Vitnell, Sam Barker and Elijah Beath continued to gain metres and take play into Magpie territory.
Forbes went to the break with a ten point lead after they ran in two more trys.
The action wasn't limited to the forwards as Forbes peppered the Tigers backline with high kicks on the last tackle but the Tigers rarely made a mistake.
Adam Parker, Murray Bennett, Blake Whiteman and Norton Thurtell were steady under the high ball, caught them easily and ran the ball back toward the charging Magpies.
Soon after half time the gap narrowed to four points as Brydon regathered a kick ahead and weaved through the defence fro a try next to the uprights.
After he converted his own try the 16's tried everything the bridge the gap but despite the Tiger's best efforts Forbes ran in three more trys and ran out winners 32-12.
The 14s and 16s have next week off as Trundle only has 8s, 10s and 12s but after a bye for the long weekend the Tigers are back at the Oval on the 14th June.
At the risk of sounding like a cracked record [ for those from the CD and Ipod generation, ask your parents] the canteen at a home game needs more helpers before it goes under and registration fees double if not triple.
The canteen raises funds for all players but it only kept going on Saturday thanks to the herculean efforts of Tina Wensley, Michelle Kemper and Rachael and Emily Bermingham.
If everyone puts in a little time after their childs game then NO ONE has to there ALL DAY, if however no helpers turn up next home game then the shutters will be closed and no one gets any food and no one makes any money!!!!
With the prices programmed into the till maths is easy and there is always food that needs to be cooked so if everyone does a little bit then no one gets over worked and no one gets upset.
