The Canowindra Tigers will play Grenfell on this coming Saturday. The game kicks off at 4.00pm at Grenfell.
The Goannas are a fast football team and the Tigers will have to be at their defensive best to beat the home team.
Both sides are last start losers with Grenfell going down to the Koorawatha Jets 38 points to16 and the Tigers went down in the local derby to Cargo.
In a sometimes entertaining and sometimes scrappy game the Blue Heelers held on win the game 26 points to 18.
Canowindra raced to a ten nil lead with tries to PJ Hilliar and Damien Kennedy.
Andrew Dunkley was leading the way once again with some strong charges into the Cargo line but in what seemed like a simple tackle saw Andrew fall badly and leave the field with a broken lower leg.
It was extremely disappointing to all Tigers fans as Andrew had been the form frontrower in the Woodbridge Cup competition.
The Tigers lost their way from that moment with Cargo's enterprising play seeing them score three tries and go to a 14 points to ten lead.
On the half time hooter Clayton Farr kicked ahead for Andrew Pull to score and lock the scores up at 14 all.
After the break Damien Kennedy scampered through to give an 18 points to 14 lead to the Tigers.
Cargo slowly dominated field position and saw them attack Canowindra line for long periods.
The Tigers try line defence was outstanding repelling the Blue Heelers but it was Cargo's brilliant broken play and support running that saw them storm into the lead 26 points to 18 with 16 minutes remaining on the clock.
The last 16 minutes saw both sides create opportunities, blow opportunities and win desperate last minute defence, the score remained at 26 points to 18.
For the Tigers no one tried harder than Damien Kennedy who was voted Players' Player and received the three best and fairest points.
Phil "Spud" Kelly received two points and Dave Sargent now playing in the forwards and improving every week received one point.
Try scorers were two to Damien Kennedy and one each to PJ Hilliar and Andrew Pull.
Damien Kennedy kicked one goal.
It was a great opportunity for the Tigers to give new players Dom Langham and PJ Hilliar their first games for the club.
Both players showed that they are quality players and will be great assets for the Tigers.
The committee thanks those people who helped out on Sunday as it was a very busy day but we must have more help on home game days.
Please come along and give a little of your time to assist.
