Tigresses impress on ladies day

04 Aug, 2010 12:00 PM
In front of a large vocal crowd on Sunday the Tigresses kept their top two aspirations alive for 2010.

Jess McMullen led the way with a great individual performance as the Tigresses put on five tries against the Bullettes.

Kayla Peters played well in the middle of the field and the electrifying Sally McLean had her usual strong game.

The evergreen Sarah Cummings was voted players player.

Canowindra 5 (Jess McMullen, Sally McLean, Keira-Lea Whatman, Maddie Vitnell, Nicole Stevenson tries) defeated Molong 2

Open juniors

In a very entertaining open juniors match an undermanned Canowindra defeated Cabonne United 20-16. Karl Maere was a standout performer for the tigers as the open junior side clinched the minor premiership with the victory.

First Grade

What started as a beautiful sunny day had evaporated into atrocious conditions by the time the first grade side ran onto the field.

It was tipped as the match of the round and the largest crowd of the season turned up to Tom Clyburn oval.

The game started poorly for the Tigers as Molong regathered from the kick off and scored under the posts in the first set of the match.

With the strong breeze behind them Molong played smart football that saw them keep Canowindra pinned in there own half, eventually the line cracked and the bulls led 10-0.

The Tiger’s first foray into Molong territory resulted in a try to Brian Moss, with the conversion the Tiger’s trailed 10-6.

Just before the break Molong crossed again to lead 16-6 at half time.

The second half started poorly for the Tigers again as Molong scored two tries in the early moments of the second half.

The Tigers finally found another gear and applied plenty of pressure to the Molong side.

Kepu Nathan scored and the conversion saw the Tiger’s trail 24-12.

With some momentum Canowindra charged back downfield and Charles Lawrence crossed for what seemed a great try, only to see it disallowed, this unsettled the Tigers and the good football they are capable of playing was forgotten as they gave in to the frustration and played themselves out of the match.

In the dying stages the bulls captain Trent Morgan chipped and regathered to score as the siren sounded in the background.

In what was such a crucial match to the tigers top four chances some of the players certainly lacked the intensity and urgency needed for that sort of match.

Best for the tigers were Charles Lawrence in a pleasing return to his best form, and from the interchange bench Andrew Pull and Dave Bermingham tried hard to lift the tigers with some good play.

Round 16

First grade head to Koorawatha on Sunday to take on the Jets.

The open juniors head to Gulgong to take part in a promotional game against Castlereagh Cup heavyweights the Gulgong terriers.

The League tag girls get the week off.
