This weekend Canowindra travel to Molong for another do or die semi that will also be played on Sunday at Molong, after the Pythons put to bed Orange Ag College's semi final hopes.
Last Sunday the Pythons played host to the Orange Ag College in the elimination semi final. Another good crowd at the oval saw the Pythons take to the field in fine style.
The first half of the game started with a well drilled move, resulting in the Canowindra outfit able to make good metres up the field and get the Aggies on the back foot straight away.
It was obvious that the big Pythons forward pack was going to make it a hard day for the Orange team with plenty of big hits from the start.
However, it was our speedy backline that was able to get the first try of the day.
A penalty in our own 22 gave us a quick tap that taken by John Grant who made it look easy running around or over the Orange defence. He made his way eighty meters down the field to put a chip kick in before he was taken into touch.
However, thanks to the ever reliable Oliver Wythes, the Pythons gathered the kick to run his way to the try line, taking the score to 8-0 with an earlier penalty goal to Craig Hogan.
The Pythons scrum was also giving the Ag College a hard time with the boys able to push them all over the park.
When an Orange player was sin binned for coming into the ruck from the side, the Pythons were given the chance to find more gaps out wide. With John Grant always looking for the ball it was only a matter of time before he would score with yet another strong run up the field busting a number of tacklers to cross for a try of his own before half time.
At the break the boys knew that the Ag College side could easily get themselves back into the game with their own speedy backline.
This was made a fair bit easier for them when the Canowindra team had two of their own players sin binned at the same time to be two men down for ten minutes.
With the Ag Collage camped in the Pythons 22 the whole time we had the men off the field, they were unable to break our line until the last minute - which came from a scrum five metres out, allowing their half back to cross the line.
Despite being only two men down, it was the only try they were to get all game, boding well for our defence to get us through the next couple of games towards the grand final.
When John came back from his ten minute spell, Ag College had probably wished he did not come back on at all. Thanks to his strong running, he managed to again run eighty metres up the field to cross for his second try and seal victory for the Canowindra team and end Ag Collage's season.
It was a good effort from the whole squad with every one playing a good game.
If we keep our infringements out off the game and keep 15 blokes on the paddock we should give the rest of the teams a real shake.
