Goal posts the first casualty in Pythons match

27 May, 2009 12:02 PM
On Saturday the Canowindra Pythons team headed to Geurie. The boys arrived at Goat territory to be greeted by a howling wind which was going to make it interesting day for the goal kickers. Though Aaron's prayers must have being answered, because as the teams were about to take the field one set of the goal posts came tumbling down. With this being the case the teams agreed for 7 point tries.

As usual the clash in the forwards was extremely hard in the opening passage of the game, with both teams wanting to show dominance. Though with the Canowindra solid front row it was always going to be the mighty pythons who would get the upper hand. This was proved to be the case when the Guerie team called for non contested scrums after losing a few tight heads.

Tom the Pom was also getting involved early on with a few trade mark tackles really hurting the goats attack. With the Pythons running into the wind in the first half it should of being a lot harder for the boys to make good metres up field. With good runs from Lachie Noble, Aaron Woolley and Ewin Douglas the python team seemed to be attacking the Geurie line more often then not. This soon lead to try scoring machine Graham Crawford to charge over for the first try of the match.

With the Geurie team left only to dirty tactics to try and break the Python line it was only a matter of time before the Pythons retaliated. With the Geurie prop(who had had more then his fair share of big macs) jumping on our 5/8th Tom Abbott after the ball had well and truly gone, Sam the machine gunner Wythes stepped in to help his comrade and in doing so gave himself a ten minute spell on the side line. Though Tom had to carried of with a badly twisted ankle. Huw Wills stepped up to play 5/8th and done a pretty good job there. Though Oliver Wythes seemed to take control of the back line and really stepped up a few gears himself and was playing some good hard footy with and with out the ball.

At half time the Pythons held onto their 7-0 lead.

In the second half it was really only one way traffic with the Graham Crawford running in another 2 tries and Joe Wythes crossing the line as well. Unfortunately Ronnie Lawrence thought he had a certain try only to reliese that he was 5 metres short(unlucky). Nathan Cartwright also had a great game for the Pythons and it was good to see him in the Canowindra jumper again after returning home from Afghanistan recently.

The final score was 28-0 with the Pythons securing a bonus point win.

Points went to Ronnie Lawrence got 3, Graham Crawford 2 and Steve Casey got 1

This weekend the Pythons play host to the Molong Magpies in what has always being a great game to watch over the years so hopefully there will be a big crowd to cheer on the mighty Pythons. Unfortunately Ladies day was meant to be held but it clashed with a hens party that a few of the girls are going to so we have postponed ladies day until the Cudal match on the 20th of June.
