In what was a good autumn afternoon soon turned into a great one for the Pythons.
With a full squad of 25 players saw the Canowindra team start the game with plenty of energy and enthusiasm. Over the years the Pythons and Eagles clash had pretty much seen a one sided affair towards Yeovel who would have won four or five premierships in a row, this was certainly not the case a Saturday.
With the game starting of in the usual manner of a tough clash in the forwards, the Python pack soon showed their
dominance by winning a couple of tight head scrums. This allowed our back line to fire with plenty of pace and skill making it nearly look easy for them to gain plenty of metres with every run.
The opening try of the day went to Canowindra’s number 8 Clint Oborn who charged his way over the line to open the pythons account. Aaron Woolly converted to take the score to 7-0 in the opening ten minutes of the game. The next try of the half went to our Scottish import Ewan Douglas who scored of the end of a brillant backline move to take the game into Canowindra’s control. Aaron also converted from the side line to give the pythons a 14-0 lead. The two Lawrence boys Chucky and Ronnie were the next to get their names on the score triers list with impressive individual tries on both accounts. This gave the pythons a 26 point lead going into the break.
The half time talk from coaches Graham Rice and Rob Morris told the boys to stay in control of the game but also to throw the ball around and give the talented backline every opportunity to make the line breaks and put some serious points on the board.
The boys obviously listened to their coach’s and made it an exiting half for all the spectators and were rewarded with plenty of tries. The try scorers for the second half were Lachlan Noble, Lloyd Jackson and speedsters Graham Crawford and Aaron Woolly were able to pick two tries each. Aaron also had a pretty successful day with the boot by kicking 6 from 10 for the day, which took his tally to 22 points for the day. In the end the pythons were convincing winners with the score line blowing out to 62-0 so well done boys.
Also Dan Williams played his first game at prop for the club and was very impressive not only in the scrums but also a few good hit ups and tackles. The club is also fortunate enough to have the services of a few new younger players with all of them showing their worth on the footy field, the club hopes that they enjoy their first year with the mighty pythons.
The points for the day went to Chucky Lawrence who picked up 3, 2 points went to Graham Crawford and 1 point went to both Ronnie Lawrence and Ewan Douglas. Players player went to Graham as well. Congratulations to all.
A big thankyou must go to every one that helped out with the bbq and bar for the afternoon, thanks very much the whole club appreciates the effort that these people do each and every week. And also to young Jack Beath who was the touch judge.
Next week the Pythons head to Orange to take on the Ag College, hopefully the boys can continue the good form and put up a good show against the aggie boys. Game starts at 3pm on Saturday. Go the Pythons
