The Canowindra Junior Pythons arrived at Endeavour Oval for the Orange Emus Gala day and once again all three age groups took part as the Luke Clarke Under 8s again had lots of players.
Under 8s
The Luke Clarke, Solicitor sponsored Under 8s took on Emus White in their first game and it didn't take long for the Richards Brothers, Jonah and Noah, and the Coady brothers, Max and Joe to make their mark.
Joe Coady and Jonah Richards combined well in the attack, with Jonah going within centimetres of scoring the teams first try.
Will Wright, Aiden Cooke and Skye Robson were strong in the double tag defence, but the tag of the day belonged to Sam Coady and Aiden Cooke as they chased down a huge Emu attacker, caught and tackled him which prevented a certain try.
The Under 8s second game was against an understrength Dubbo Rhino's side so the 8s leant Joe and Max Coady and Noah Richards to the Rhinos.
Noah Richards tried his best to score a try even if it was for Rhinos, but big brother Jonah was his shadow and Noah only got away from him once and got across the line.
Angus Fisher led the defensive effort as he chased Rhino attackers all over the field and usually caught them.
He was backed up in this defensive effort by Will Fagan, Jonah, Skye and Joseph Clarke.
The 8s first try came as Joseph Clarke finished off some burgeoning phase play and went over the line in the corner.
Joe Coady and Noah richards continued to attack for the other team before Jonah Richards took advantage of confusion in the mid field to take the ball and run away to score.
Georgia Balcomb and Skye Robson continued to learn the skills as their passes became more like football passes and less like netball ones.
Jonah Richards finished off the try scoring of the game with a quick sideline run which showed his speed and a nifty side step.
The Luke Clarke 8s final game was against Bathurst Blue and this became a game of touch footy as all players on both sides wanted to play so everyone was on the field at once with the Bathurst side containing Tom & Fergus Finn to make it seem like a training run.
So with both sides fielding ten a side rather than the usual six it got a little crowded on the small field.
Both side were getting tired but the basics were still there from the Richards boys, Angus Fisher and Joe Clarke as they leads the attack and the chasing defence.
Skye Bobson and Georgia Balcomb had mastered the tap tackle and they let few boys get away from them.
Under 10s
The Canowindra Services Club Under10s played Bathurst first and Bathurst ran away with the game as the 10s took a while to get settled.
In a physical game the 10s showed they had learnt a lot this season as they put together many phases in attack as they kept the ball while rolling down the field.
Brenton Clements, Will Fagan, Daniel Schuler and Wesley Blair formed the basis of the defence while Levi Richards and Callum Clyburn provided the speed in attack.
Cal crossed for the 10s first try with a 50 metre dash over the tryline after strong lead up work from the forwards.
Levi Richards made it two trys for the team after he barged his way over the line and Brenton Clements almost added to the tally only he was held up over the tryline.
Matt Schuler also found gaps in Bathurst's defence but couldn't quite break through the final tacklers.
The 10s second game was against Emus Green and the 10s went down narrowly, 4-3.
Levi Richards scored twice the first from a solo run down the left line before Brenton Clements made a swift break and just before he was tackled he threw a speculator pass which Levi caught and crossed the line for his second try.
Callum Clyburn scored the team's third try after he grabbed the ball from an Emus runner and took off in the other direction for a brilliant individual effort.
Tom Robson continued to improve as he found gaps in the Emus line and started to attack, while Wesley Blair and Will Fagan formed a great forward combination, kept the ball in hand when the 10s Pythons had the ball and pushed the Emus backs, backwards when Emus had possession.
Dan and Matt Schuler were always there to help Will and Wes every time they had the ball.
The 10s final game was against Forbes Blue was a hard fought encounter with both sides scoring four trys.
Tom Robson led the way with bull like charges always supported by Will Fagan and Levi Richards.
Callum Clyburn agains scored two trys both showing off his speed off the mark and an ability to dodge defenders.
Wesley Blair set up Levi for his fourth try of the day while Callum and Brenton combined to send Dan Schuler across the line for the equaliser.
Dan and Matt Schuler attacked Forbes head on in defence and came up with many important tackles while Wes and Will could only be described as menacing in their umbrella like defence.
Under12s
The Winyar Merinos Under 12s seemed to suffer a letdown from their highs of the home games of last week and started off slowly against Forbes.
In a scrappy first half neither side could gain the upper hand as the continuity of possession failed to eventuate and last ditch tackles from a desparate defence meant that at the break neither side had crossed the try line.
Forbes was first over the line early in the second half before Makk McNaught grabbed the ball from the back of the maul dodged the defence, used the referee for obstruction and went over the line for the 12s only try.
Despite the best efforts of Tim Middleton, George Carroll, and Isaac Beath in the backs trys were hard to score, while in the forwards Michael Brown, Lachlan Clulow and Brendan Morgan Smith tried to keep the phases rolling along towards the line, but it was not to be.
In the 12s second game Molong got the jump on the junior Pythons and ran in three quick trys before the 12s settled down.
Josh Trayhurn got the first one back, following a backs passing move from a penalty tap, where Josh scored in the left corner.
The general at half back, Pete McNamara, clawed the next one back as he directed a rolling maul close to the Molong line before he took the ball out of the maul and went over the line in the other corner and the score was 2-3.
After another Molong try play was again near the Pythons line when Pete McNamara robbed a Molong attacker of the ball and crossed the line virtually in the same spot as his first try.
It was almost evened up at the break as Stewart Russell was almost over the line at the front of a rolling maul but he was held up millimetres from the line.
After half time Molong again put two runners through the gaps and stretched the lead to three trys.
Once again the 12s Pythons started to build the phases as Brendan Morgan Smith, Makk McNaught, and Michael Brown combined and took play into Molong's quarter from where Makk again ran with the ball over the line.
Strong combinations from Wallace Stranger, George Carroll, Cormac Lamond gave Josh Trayhurn the extra space needed and he crossed the line to narrow the gap to 5-6.
Despite their best efforts the 12s just failed to get the last score needed to snatch the draw.
The 12s final game was a game of two halves as the light blues dominated Orange City in the first half.
Makk McNaught again capitalised on good maul work by the forwards as he came off the back of the maul and raced half the field to score the opening try.
Fletcher Johnson improved all morning as he ran strongly and combined with the more experienced forwards in the rucks and mauls.
Isaac Beath scored the 12s second try of the half after Cormac Lamond and Wallace Stranger combined to make the gap which Isaac ran quickly through.
In the second half City regrouped and attacked with determination and the warm weather seemed to tire the python side, despite strong moves from Michael Brown, Tim Middleton and Wallace Stranger.
The 12s defence kept tackling around knees and ankles but City ran out winners four trys to two.
This week is the Junior Pythons last gala day when they go to Orange again for the Kinross gala day.
