Report on under 12s age group matches at the Macquarie Emus club’s gala day held at Trangie on Sunday 15 June 2008.
The mighty and undefeated Pythons under 12s side made the long trek to Trangie last weekend ready to crush any opposition that would threaten to end their winning streak.
Three matches were played on the day:
Game 1: Pythons vs Mudgee
Both sides fielded 7 players for the first half, the Pythons showed they were ready to play and set about carving Mudgee up, the boys all played strongly, with Josh Trayhurn and Michael Brown taking the ball up with gusto, and George Carroll, Tim Middleton, Josh Trayhurn and Michael Brown all tackling the opposition into the ground.
Mudgee were relieved when half time arrived, and it was agreed to add some Walgett imports to each side to make up the teams to 10 a side for the second half.
Unfortunately for Mudgee, the Canowindra try blitz continued with the Pythons running out convincing 12 tries to nil winners. Try scorers for the Pythons were Josh Trayhurn (4), Brendan (dozer) and George Carroll (2 each) and Tim Middleton, Jack Beath and Peter McNamara chipping in with 1 try each.
Game 2: Pythons vs Walgett
It was with some anticipation that the crowd waited for the start of this match. Walgett were an unknown quantity, and appeared to have some quick stepping players in their ranks. Once the game started however, the Pythons quickly asserted their dominance, and put on a well balanced team performance to outclass the enthusiastic Walgett side. The teams played 11 a side, with Walgett kindly providing the Pythons with the extra players we needed. Pythons ran out 9 tries to nil winners after leading 3 nil at half time. Try scorers for the Pythons were Josh Trayhurn (2), Michael Brown (2), Tim Middleton, Peter McNamara and Callum Clyburn with 1 try each. An unidentified Walgett player helped out by scoring 2 tries against his own team. Special mention to Callum Clyburn who played up from the under 11s team and acquitted himself with distinction. T\Credit ti a valiant Walgett team who never gave up, and were one of the few teams to successfully tackle Josh Trayhurn this season. Josh is in a purple patch and has been a joy to watch on the field.
Game 3: Pythons vs Molong
To make for a more challenging game, coaches agreed to form 2 combined teams to contest the last game of the day. A Canowindra/Molong team (the cabonnes?) took on a Macquarie Emus/Coonamble side (the westerners?), both sides had 12 players. The Cabonnes and the westerners played a closer fought game, with the Cabonnes eventually running out 4 tries to 1 winners. Try scorers were shared equally between Canowindra and Molong. Eyewitnesses reported that the teams combined well and the game was played in a good spirit.
The Pythons under 12s have been unstoppable this season, the boys have been playing as a cohesive team, and have displayed great ball skills. Credit goes to Pete Middleton who has coached the boys very well. We travel to Orange Emus next weekend for our next gala day on the 22 June.
