Breaststroke championships decided at swimming club

13 Feb, 2008 07:15 AM
Breaststroke championships were the main event on Friday night's swimming Club agenda.

While winners will not be announced until presentation night the breaststroke dash was again a keenly contested event.

The girls dash was keenly fought out with Erica Johnson tipping out a fast finishing Hannah Roth, both girls obviously benefited from their respective school swimming carnivals.

The boys breaststroke dash was another fast 33m with Elijah Beath finishing just ahead of Brydon Hughes in the middle of the pool.

The 66m freestyle again saw improvers from all ages as Tayla Huckle led the way with a 7 second improvement.

Close behind in the improver stakes was James Russell who lopped 6 seconds off his previous best while Kain Earsman and Hannah Roth took 4 seconds off their best times.

Kim Dale swam the two laps of freestyle 2 seconds faster than before while in the 33m freestyle Max Coady knocked four seconds off his PB.

Sophie Huckle lowered her 33m free time by 3 seconds while Amelia Holmes swam the spoon final so fast that she took 3 seconds off her time and as such was too fast to win the spoon.

The spoon winner was Sara Naylor in a time of 26 seconds.

Katrina Nash improved her time in the 33m backstroke by four seconds while best improver in the 33m breaststroke was Joe Coady as he lopped 7 seconds off his previous time.

Eloise Beath shattered her 33m breaststroke time by 5 seconds while Georgia Balcomb, Tim Wythes and Rosie Beath took two seconds off their times for the lap of breaststroke.

A late inclusion in the 33m butterfly, Amy Wythes took 2 seconds off her best time for the stroke, and Isaac Beath took out the belly flop award with a superb-tummy-reddening-flop prior to his backstroke race.

The 100BBB was run for the second time this season and more brave souls swam the three laps of their favourite 'B' stroke to get a time.

Improvers from the time before were led by Tim Middleton as he chopped 14 seconds off his time, while Sara Naylor lopped 10 seconds from her PB.

Madison Vitnell took 5 seconds off her time while Michael Brown improved by 4 seconds.

After two school swimming carnivals over the Thursday night and Friday there were less relay swimmers than usual but twenty swimmers still lined up and the winners in lane three were Adelaide Ellis, Lucy Harrison, Alicia Earsman and Regan Hughes.

This week it is butterfly championships so make sure you enter on the butterfly championships sheet at the front of the blue folder at the pool so that the race secretary knows you want to enter them, don't just tick the regular race distances.
