28 Nov, 2007 07:53 AM
Clear sunny skies ensured another big roll up at Canowindra Swimming Club on Friday.

Canowindra Swimming Club’s standout improver this week went to Jodie Ward, who chopped a massive 47 seconds off her previous best for the 66 metres breaststroke, while Jennifer Holmes lowered her time by an excellent eight seconds for the same event.

Newcomer Michael Brown started off his 2007-2008 season well as he lowered his 33 metres backstroke time by four seconds while also lowering his 33 metres butterfly and breaststroke times by two seconds.

The 66 metres freestyle also saw improvements the largest coming from Regan Hughes who lopped his best by six seconds while Jack Knight took five seconds from his best time and Rohan Toole and Beatrice Patterson took four seconds from their times.

Cassie Naylor and Jake Wythes lowered their times by three seconds for the two laps of freestyle.

A big improver in the 33 metres freestyle were newcomers Sophie Tremain who lowered her time by four seconds and was ineligible for the spoon semis and final.

Sophie also lowered her 33 metres backstroke time by six seconds a great effort for Sophie’s first weeks.

However, the freestyle improver of the night went to Joe Coady who gradually lowered his 33 metres time by four seconds over the heats, semis and final as he took out the spoon by a finger touch from the other finalists.

Beatrice Patterson also lowered her 33 metres backstroke time by two seconds while Hannah Watson continued an impressive start to her season with a two second improvement for her backstroke time.

Joe Coady also beat his 33 metres breaststroke time by two seconds while Hayley White, Regan Hughes, Samantha Flannery and Rohan Toole lowered their times by the same margin.

Joe capped an impressive night by also being part of the winning relay team, a monumental effort.

The belly flop competition also started this week but your correspondent forgot who won and also neglected to note down the rest of the winning relay team so that will be held over until next week’s report.

The Club would also like to thank Julie Middleton for accepting the presidency of Canowindra Swimming Club for the 2007/2008 season, we know you will do a terrific job.
