Swim catpains to be elected on Friday

23 Jan, 2008 01:54 PM
A double report from swimming club this week as two week’s of swimming go under the microscope.

A note from the committee before the results this Friday swimmers will elect Club Captains. Nomination forms are in the swimming registration folder at the pool, so nominate the two swimmers you want to represent you for the rest of the season.

If you can't get to the folder before it goes on Wednesday afternoon please consider who you want to be your captains before the election on Friday night.

On Friday 12th the night opened with the 200m and as usual with an event that isn't swum every night the times cam a tumblin' down.

Peta Edwards and Bailey Cain led the improvers as they lopped an impressve 13 seconds off their Pbs for the 200m.

Nigel Knight improved his best by 12 seconds while Dan Middleton lowered his by 7 seconds and Madison Vitnell took 4 seconds off her time.

The 66 BBB saw Regan Hughes take a massive 11 seconds off his best for the 66m breaststroke while Madison Vitnell lowered her 66m backstroke by another 4 seconds.

The Holmes girls have obviously been practicing over the break as Amelia took 5 seconds off her 66m breaststroke while older sister Jen improved her time by 3 seconds for the same stroke.

Sophie Huckle improved her 33m backstroke by 5 seconds while she smashed her 33m freestyle time by six seconds.

Sophie Tremain improved both her 33m freestyle and 33m backstroke by 3 seconds a good start for 2008.

However it was the spoon final that nearly brought the lights down as sibling rivalry had the pool water foaming behind the speeding competitors.

Siblings represented were Cassie and Sara Naylor and the two oldest Hughes boys, Brydon and Curtis and in a photo finish on equal times it was the judges who separated the two Hughes's, with Curtis getting the nod and the spoon.

On a wet and breezy night swimming club went ahead with swimmers preferring to stay in the water rather than get out.

First on the list was the Medley and once again there were great improvers as Tayla Huckle led the way with a massive 24 second improvement.

Tim Middleton lowered his time by 10 seconds while Peta Edwards and Stewart Russell took a repsectable 3 seconds off their best for the swim.

Tayla Huckle continued the improvement as she took 2 seconds off her best in the 66m freestyle while the pocket dynamo Joe Coady lowered his best in the 66m freestyle by 3 seconds.

Sophie Huckle didn't let big sister get the entire spotlight as she lowered her 33m freestyle time by 3 seconds [ a 9 second improvement over two weeks] while Samantha Flannery took out the spoon in a time of 28 seconds.

A 100m BBB was run as a trial and the following brave souls lined up for the swim at the end of the night after a full and quick speedy night. [ which was finished by about 7:10pm]: Sam Willson, Stewart Russell, Michael Brown, Beatrice Patterson, Sara Naylor, Samantha Flannery, Dan Middleton Tim Middleton and Madison Vitnell.
